Popular Post tiagol88 Posted July 19 Popular Post Posted July 19 I don't know why we need to shade a person to bring up someone else. Thank god those days are over for me. Taylor can be slaying the charts and Janelle Monáe could too. One thing doesn't erase the other. 21 11 1
Buffy Posted July 19 Posted July 19 TTPD is that girl. It has everyone shaking. AOTY confirmed. 6 6 3
Princess Aurora Posted July 19 Posted July 19 The only thing I agree with is that Janelle Monae should be as big as Taylor Swift 4 1
Popular Post Mezik Posted July 19 Popular Post Posted July 19 So a talentless bland male is upset that a talented female artist who is in full control of her career is successful? Shocker. 15 1 1
Popular Post Badgalbriel Posted July 19 Popular Post Posted July 19 Really the main character of the entertainment industry. 16
makeme Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Imagine having full control of your career and releasing a dud album like that. Talentless confirmed 7 3
Dante Silva Posted July 19 Posted July 19 (edited) Madonna honey, I genuinely love you so give that angle up, there is no way you can compete with the youthful force of that post capitalist (yet still a capitalist) beast. Edited July 19 by Dante Silva
ATRL Moderator Popular Post Juánny Posted July 19 ATRL Moderator Popular Post Posted July 19 Yes, Janelle Monae is an incredible artist IMO and deserves any and all recognition that comes her way. But that has little to do with commercial success, otherwise she would be making a totally different kind of music. You can make great and creative music (which is subjective, by the way) and not see a dime in profit. Using Taylor as the go-to punching bag every time someone wants to air a grievance about artistic merit and success in the music industry is just not it, a contrived means of placing the blame when people don't know where to place it, so they go for the most successful person they know of. I would be the first to argue that Janelle's output is better than Taylor's on average, but the false equivalency being made in the OP tweet is just ridiculous, as one has nothing to do with the other. 13 8
