Truth Teller Posted June 28 Posted June 28 They butchered End of an Era We need Club Radical Optimism
KatyPrismSpirit Posted June 28 Posted June 28 the way some of these extensions have glitches in them if you listen closely 1
Supervillain Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Just gonna repeat what everyone is saying, these are so forced and unnecessary A wasted opportunity to twist the era around… 1 1
MaxMartin Posted June 28 Posted June 28 these are so lazy & uninspired. The anything for love one is laughable. Girl , just write a ******* verse come on 4
Assassin Posted June 28 Posted June 28 At least Houdini (extended) had an extra verse. Most of the extended versions I've heard are just random instrumentals which just ruin the flow of the song
Dante Silva Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) I listened to this, all the way through from start to finish last night. I found the entire extended album to be an enjoyable experience. Until Kylie I hadn't known of an artist to do this for every track so the concept appears to be influenced by Kylie (I'm not including Janet even though those were more akin to extensions in that time period, "Control: The Remixes" was not every track from the original album in chronological sequence). As every track on "Radical Optimism (Extended Versions)" have kept the production of the originals and haven't attempted to re-invent the tracks with techno or ambient arrangements, I like the project. I'm actually shocked practically no-one appears to understand the rudimental concept of expanded instrumental sections/ musical passages and/ or arrangements for the purpose of dancing and keeping music going or has the capacity to cross reference the origins of this concept in context of pop culture and dance culture (on a pop culture website). No wheels have been re-invented here! If you don't feel inspired to dance or understand what necessitates the concept of extended versions, then don't listen. Please don't instead broadcast ignorance. I don't find any of the criticisms leveled against this extended album to be valid at all. It's a shame most appear not to be able to tell the difference between extended mixes and remixes and are discussing the former as if they are the latter. I also see many appear to assume that in most cases these extensions were created retroactively of the originals and that somehow makes the extensions 'forced'. I don't buy in to this belief. This will be my 'go to' version of the album from now on and I'm glad to have it. Id like there to be a physical release but based on feedback I'm not sure many others feel the same which is a shame. Migs Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I was super excited for it, but it turned out to be a lazy project just for streams. These Walls and Anything For Love are tragic.
Ghost Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) Sorry but the run of the first three tracks is INCREDIBLE, the way the instrumentals breathe and the grooves just hit... This is her artistic peak so far, I'm sad people can't see it Edited June 28 by Ghost 1 1
Adam’s Eve Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Yeah this was just lazy. I'm disappointed because I really enjoyed the original album so was expecting a lot more. Houdini was cute but the rest were so underwhelming. These Walls was a mess.
JanEgo Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Yep, they just feel long and lazy, and actively bad in the worst moments. She is spiraling at this point, an absolute disaster.
Virgos Groove Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) A 6-minute version of Falling Forever and it still starts like... that We need Club Radical Optimism, not this. Edited June 28 by Virgos Groove 1
gopobo Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) I was hoping for some extra verses but no - they have just unnecessarily dragged the songs out by 1-2 minutes without adding anything of substance. What a wasted opportunity to revamp the songs. Edited June 28 by gopobo 2
RoughOperator Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I don't mind that there aren't a lot of production quirks/new lyrics, but I agree they could have done a better job. These walls specifically has a very noticeable cut they should fix and I'm disappointed they shamelessly left it there thinking nobody would notice. I didn't bother listening to the whole thing because even the extended mixes for the singles weren't my thing (even the new lyrics in houdini didn't add much) but I believe they serve their purpose for the most part and they help the instrumentals come out sometimes (whatcha doing's last part as others have said is very good).
tjspy Posted June 28 Posted June 28 For me this does well the job of giving the album some more space/atmosphere. I cant get into each songs environment more and it feels like a whole experience now. I was not looking for anything more than that. Houdini was a bonus and maybe almost more a remix than a extended edit only. So yeah, I'm glad I have this
Virgos Groove Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Okay, these extended versions suck (except Houdini and Illusion), but they do reinforce my point about the instrumentation being GREAT on the original album. The guitars, the drums, the bass...
mike_int Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I made myself a version of the cover with the title on it, if someone is interested 1
Tistotal Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) the end of an era sounds kinda better y'all complaining just because she is floping Edited June 28 by Tistotal
Ivan_brit Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Its fine, my faves are Watcha Doing, Falling Forever, Happy For You & Anything For Love you can identify better the amazing production of this album The only ones that are bad a These Walls, Training Season
LanaXtinaFan Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Terrible album. Only thing that could fix this mess is a complete remix album. or a deluxe with some actual decent songs.
EnigmaticAndroid Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I think I'm the only person who likes the Anything for Love version though. At least it feels like a full song compared to the album version. In general I don't hate this. It's lazy and some of the choices made really ruin the flow and pacing of the songs (looking at you Falling Forever), but it's cute for what it is. A few versions will be in rotation. 1
