PoisonedIvy Posted June 18 Posted June 18 2 minutes ago, YellowRibbon said: Also, yeah, we know she's not the best poet or songwriter out there from an "academic" pov, BUT, to be the "Songwriter of a Generation" you don't necessarily need to be the best at it in a technical way. Taylor's entire character & marketing is centered around writing these very mundane feelings with a diaristic approach in song format, she has mass-appel, something that "academically" better songwriters usually lack. Nobody in their right mind will come here and say stuff like "Taylor is a better songwriter than Kate Bush or Fiona Apple", but from a global perspective, most people outside very specific music niches don't know anything about these "better" songwriters so they pick the most recognizable that made it into the mainstream sphere and has maintained a 17 years long career in the mainstream sphere. Not to mention being a great songwriter isn't just being able to create abstract art, it's also being able to create on a level that connects with swaths of humanity. The Beatles weren't revered for creating inaccessible art — they were memorialized for their universally recognized proficiency in lyricism and musical composition. Being a great songwriter is just as much about evolving as it is about remaining grounded. The artistic writers that live with their head in the clouds have admitted that they struggle with writing commercially accessible music. Taylor can float back and forth between two spaces while most writers can only occupy one. Madonna is another writer that I've mentioned has excelled at this duality in the past. Mariah too. It's the reason they went on to become the biggest female artists of all time, and their legacies remain kind to them. 9 1 1
Blade Runner Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Yes, we need Twitter to keep hating on her so it'll be easier to get tickets for her next tour. 1.5M people waiting in line every time she announced a date wasn't cute at all. 5

NoOneDiesFromLove Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I sincerely hope you people get your thread making abilities revoked + you learn how to touch grass and live life 3 1
LOTF Posted June 18 Posted June 18 That tweet is as pretentious as her overpraising fans BUT it is right when it says her songwriting is superfluous
woohoo Posted June 18 Posted June 18 33 minutes ago, YellowRibbon said: An echo chamber of 300-400K stans on Twitter is just that, nothing more, nothing less. These aren't her listeners anyway so I wonder... Does it feel tiring when you scream constantly about how much you dislike something, just for it to not change the situation that's triggering you so much at all? There's a whole ass Reddit topic about Taylor and Travis and what an awful artist and person she is, how their breakup is imminent etc. Like get a job stay away from her😂. There's an OTH TikTok account that's like "something (Amanda's version)" or some ish like you wouldn't get clicks if you didn't speak her name. These people need to unlatch from her teat they've almost sucked her dry for clicks and views at this point. 1
1989 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 The tweet literally doesn't even mean anything, ATRL is truly losing it over Taylor. 4 1
Tylerbv Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I don't really disagree with the overall sentiment, but girl put down the thesaurus
Doctor Dick Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Whenever there's a MPG at the absolute top there will be haters dissecting her every talent and move. Britney was the lack of vocal abilities, Gaga being pretentious and try-hard, Madonna being a slút and now Taylor being a bad songwriter. 1
The Music Industry Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Wow her downfall must be imminent yet again thanks for keeping tabs and bringing this to our attention @georgechxng 1
kimberly Posted June 18 Posted June 18 1 hour ago, niiall said: Screaming at "lacking minimalism" what does that even mean? I think what they mean is that Taylor severely needs an editor, which has been my main issue with her most recent output. Too many songs, too many words, too many ideas in one music video... etc. She needs more serious collaborators and less "yes men," though I imagine it must be difficult to find anyone who can say no to a person that can catapult their career to the next level or earn them a big check. Her commercial success gets in the way of her artistry. She's a cash cow for everyone around her. 1
Happylittlepunk Posted June 18 Posted June 18 She was considered a good writer for her age. But now as a grown adult her lyrics seem cringe. Glad more and more people are calling her out for her lazy writing or lack of growth in her writings. 7 5
Wicked Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Why are rappers always discounted from this discussion, anyways that tweet is clunky itself lol
Taylena Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Shakespeare's writing was also subject to criticism during his lifetime and in the centuries that followed his death. No great artist will ever be universally praised and their work understood by all the masses, but that's alright. 1
Venice B Posted June 18 Posted June 18 That tweet doesn't make any sense. And maybe she's not THEE best songwritter of our generation but she's a pretty great one, and not accepting that is just... hate and delusion.
Da Vinci Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Taylor has a LOT of gems and golden nuggets in all her albums but I think she always falls back on her bread and butter which is the theme of young love Even her most acclaimed work even by non-fans, folklore, is mostly famous for its "teenage love triangle" story Obviously young love is what makes Taylor's music universal and relatable and even my favorite Taylor songs ever are her love ballads But I'd love to see her make a body of work that completely explores other topics and go out of her comfort zone, even go beyond self-centered (or what's a more neutral word for it) songs like Anti-Hero 1
arctic-turner Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Tbh if Ed Sheeran was a girl gays and girls would flock to him like they do Taylor 2 4
dawnettakins Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) No growth, no generational talent. I don't make the rules! Edited June 18 by dawnettakins 1 3
Iñakifan Posted June 18 Posted June 18 She really is that girl, isn't she? No one can stop thinking about her.
Mezik Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I can't take anyone seriously who genuinely believes Taylor is a bad songwriter. 1 2
kyoshi Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Not this again you all are just pretentious and use these mindless rants as a coping mechanism for her success. I guess another thread will be made in a couple of minutes about the deluded tweet comparing her to Musk because of how she dances in a fringe dress
