UK newspaper calls Taylor's music "uninteresting, repetitive and entirely basic"

Yeah, I always find it odd when her fans use her songwriting as a brag, it feels like she's still stuck in high school

Beyoncé, Lady Gaga.

She's the final form of a capitalistic music industry that only exists to push variants.

As if your faves aren't doing the same… The hypocrisy to only come after Taylor…

I mean I love that she's getting dragged nowadays, but this is simply not true

I think it's okay to find someone's music bland but it's not okay to insult an entire fanbase.

U really aren't saying 4 variants (Beyonce) are equal to 40+ different editions of one album within 2-3 months of its release? :rip:

with voice memo drafts that she can make whenever she wants to and might not even be the real draft of a song :ahh:

Yes Swifties give her all your money so she can stay tortured

Its interesting to see more and more writers begging for Pop artists to be more adventurous.

I think her being this successful with music that isn't pushing any needles bothers people. I will say the lyrics isn't the biggest issue, it's the arrangements. They're so flavorless everytime I try to recall my favorite tracks off folklore I have to go back and listen again to jog my memory. They don't stick. She needs a collaborator that can bring more interesting compositions to the table. idc if you talk about relationships, I do care if its over a basic arrangement with the life EQ'd out of it.

Boom. That's it. Her albums post since Reputation sound fatigued due to the repetitive arrangements.

She needs a therapist instead of excising her demons on the debut weeks of other female artists.

Folklore should've been produced by Justin Vernon. We would've been having a completely different conversation if it was.

They're right, and they should say it! Taylor is the most uninspired, bland, mediocre, and untalented artist out there. Why she is the biggest star is perplexing to me.

I'm so glad this person does not have the intellect of a worm, so she could write such a good article. Good work indeed.

I think some accessible versions of songs from 22, A Million would be amazing. I could hear Taylor on 666 ʇ production with a more pop structure of course.

"I physically flinch when adults tell me they love Swift"

Therapy!

Meanwhile:

Ringo Starr: "I love Taylor Swift, that's just how I am. I love her."

Bruce Springsteen: "She's a tremendous writer."

Carole King: "Over the years, I have known some great songwriters and I have also known some great singers and performers. It's rare to see all those talents in one person. Taylor Swift."

Dolly Parton: "I think she's spectacular, [a] great writer, and I love how she presents herself. She's always been such a pro, and I've admired her all these years."

Billy Joel: "She's like that generation's Beatles"

Britney Spears: "The most iconic pop woman of our generation"

Shania Twain: "I'm a big supporter of Taylor. I think she's just incredibly brilliant."

Jon Bon Jovi: "Taylor Swift is going to be here for as long as she chooses to be."

Patti Smith: "She's trying to do something good."

Stevie Nicks: "Taylor is writing for the universal woman and for the man who wants to know her. The female rock-'n'-roll-country-pop songwriter is back, and her name is Taylor Swift. And it's women like her who are going to save the music business."

Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins): "Taylor Swift is one of the most gifted pop artists of all time."

Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day): "Great production. Great voice. Great entertainer. Great songwriting."

Gene Simmons (KISS): "There's no question, Taylor Swift has taken over and she's great"

Keith Urban: "I mean, God, Taylor's songwriting, it's so extraordinary. There's really no adjectives for it. She's such a great, great writer. So this new album (TTPD) is just more proof of that in really great ways."

Raye: "She is just one of those rare timeless artists who gets it right every time. She's an absolute powerhouse.

It's bad enough as it is, but then you realise she did the same thing with another album just 8 months ago… and ANOTHER album 4 months before that… and ANOTHER album 6 months before that… and that's just the albums. There are tour tickets, cinema tickets, merchandise, the list goes on.

Taylor takes it to a new extreme, but the sad thing is that basically every single one of our faves is doing it. Capitalism has well and truly taken over the music industry :dancehall2:

She's appealing to the millions and masses because she appeals to and does the least common denominator.

Never anything challenging, boundary pushing, or unexpected. And that's the point.

To appeal to as many people as possible to maximize profit as much as is literally possible, and not shakeup anything that might hurt that. Meaning nothing controversial or which is otherwise likely to challenge the narrative.

They spilled I fear.

She's bland and her music is even blander. And to quote Linda Perry "I wonder if she even likes her own music."

But she found her demography consisting mainly out of vulnerable white girls who relate to her dear diary/high school drama songs. And Taylor surely loves to expoit them.

At the end of the day, it devoids her of really any artistic merit and has pretty much tarnished her artistic integrity atp. These endless variants and punching down at other female artists has made sure of that. It's all about the profit, numbers, and capitalist game with her for her own ego and bank account.

Evermore and Folklore are not basic though. Newspaper should ban bitter gay from writing a review or opinion piece.

this pathetic effort to diminish her songwriting abilities only tells me that she IS a talented songwriter because why else would these people be threatened enough to write articles about it :rip:
