Why didn't Christina release Bionic in 2008? Why a Greatest Hits album?

Featured Replies

I will never understand whomever's decision it was to have Christina release a GH album in 2008 instead of Bionic, it probably would have done much better before the Gaga mania in 2010.

She was already teasing the era with songs like Genie 2.0 and Keeps Getting Better but whomever decided to wait until 2010.

Bionic was always destined to flop no matter the release date. Bad music is bad music.

Christina just didn't release the quality needed to sustain a career and spent too much time chasing trends (Mariah, P!nk, Gaga, Britney) instead of starting them herself. She was constantly releasing singles, but nothing was fresh or innovative post-mid 00s so she couldn't achieve longevity.

Because otherwise she couldn't have named it Keeps Getting Better...A Decade Of Hits :giraffe:She was celebrating 10 years of her career 98-08

But the GH album was a flop...

I can't remember the exact story since it's been so many years but i believe what happened was Bionic was originally more experimental like the 2.0 tracks (she worked with Goldfrapp, Ladytron, MIA, etc) and it's my understanding that the songs like Little Dreamer and Birds of Prey was supposed to be the vibe of the whole album.

I believe label interfered bc they were worried it wasn't mainstream enough, had her push out the GH while she was sent back to the studio to work on songs like Prima donna

Was Genie 2.0 a Bionic reject?

The more you look into it the more you see xtina really screwed herself during those first 10 years of her career.

The album wasn't ready in 2008 so I am not sure how she would have released it then...

She could have released an EP for Bionic before the full album came out. No need for that flop GH album

Not you saying this when Panda was a smash.

From my understanding, it was a classic case of label interference and a lack of faith. She knew which direction she wanted to go in, as she had expressed that while towards the end of the Back to Basics Tour. And that was before the Europop and nu-disco craze had truly taken over stateside. She seemed proud of the music she had recorded for Bionic, though, but it's still not what it was originally supposed to be—not to the same extent. It was supposed to be more experimental in nature.

I think her greatest hits album was released prematurely, even though it was meant to be a celebration of her music for the decade she had been active musically. Also, I think it was also her label testing the waters, to bundle the direction she was going in with her iconic hits just to see what the reception would be to that sound.

She doesn't seem that passionate about creating music, she loves to perform but she would rather perform old hits than to release an album every two years :rip:

Literally one of the best discographies out there and one of the most influential (per your fave's own mouth - who wouldn't exist without her)

i think she was very passionate about Bionic but i'm sure she was frustrated after label made her change the direction. X is historically a perfectionist when it comes to her music which is why she takes so long

As I said - you're serving Trumpie delusion. Imagine stanning someone with a wildly mediocre discography like that of Xtina's and coming for one of the most influential catalogues of our time. Let alone your fave's idol and the woman who made it possible for your fave to exist.

Mariah Carey's catalog is the stuff pop divas-in-the-making can only dream of.
