They were talking to each other in late 2022 when Lorde, Charli, Caroline Polachek and Phoebe Bridgers were all doing the Primavera Sound tour in South America.

Perhaps the song was finished in 2022, but in that case I'm sure Lorde has heard the song or heard about the song, long before the lyrics were being posted on here. I don't think there is any real drama there.

 

Lorde was also recording in London in 2023, so I wouldn't be surprised if they talked then as well.

In a recent instagram story Lorde revealed that BRAT was the first album she ever presaved… yes you heard that right! She did not presave her friend's Taylor TTPD that came out earlier. We can only wonder what that whole mess is about!
