I love that we're going to get insights into the two other District 12 tributes from that year. I think Maysilee is the "most stuck-up girl in town" but I can't wait to learn more about the other two.

Spoiler

It's gonna be heartbreaking reading how they die though. I have a feeling they're gonna die in the bloodbath and the bloodbath that year sounded gruesome. :dancehall:

this sounds like he did something similar vibe to what Kat and Peeta did on their first Games. if thats the case, why did they allow him to be a mentor at all?

Cause he's the only known victor and they probably wanted to save face by not having D12 be the odd one out while the others had their victors be mentors.

The reruns of his games was sparse & edited so not many of the public would've remembered his alleged rebellious spirit.

:psyduck: I wonder how she's gonna cut down the 48 tributes quickly

I went back and reread the 50th games summary in Catching Fire. It plays out like this:

Spoiler
  • Day 1: 18 tributes died in the Bloodbath (which is where I'm guessing the 2 other D12 tributes are going to die). 30 tributes (10 careers) left
  • Days 2 and 3: 5 more tributes die. The way it's written implies that they all succumbed to the arena's many poisons, but some of them may have died in combat. Since Maysilee using the arena's poison to kill her tributes is also mentioned around here, she may have killed during this time too. 25 tributes (10 careers) left
  • Day 4: A snowy mountain turns out to be a volcano, which erupts and takes out 12 more tributes. 13 tributes (5 careers) left

The following events don't have the day that they happened specified:

  • Haymitch killed 2 careers, Maysilee killed the 3rd. 10 tributes (2 careers) left
  • It's implied that Haymitch and Maysilee killed more tributes than just those three careers by working together, so some of the tributes that placed 10th-6th were probably killed by them too. Others might have died in combat with other tributes or via the arena's poisons.
  • Maysilee dies at the hands of mutated flamingos with razor sharp beaks, placing 5th
  • Another tribute is killed in combat, placing 4th
  • One tribute is killed by the carnivorous squirrels that Haymitch also had to deal with, placing 3rd
  • The D1 girl dies when her axe hits the forcefield, placing 2nd
  • Haymitch wins

So there's 37 tribute deaths that are concretely known, leaving Collins with 10 more that she can write in without retconning anything. Given that we know this much detail about the games up to this point, it'll be interesting to see how much more she adds to it (or to the story in general).

I knew the cover would be purple!!! I like it, minus the snake going from thin to thick to mirror the bird.

I was expecting orange just based on the title but the purple was a cute surprise
