Gwendolyn Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 I know we hate Simon but.. he's right We do need more Western boy groups and the UK pop scene is drier than a Popeyes biscuit right now; I'm not sure he's the right man for this though 1 1
Rune Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Simon Cowell wants to create an artificial product to profit from for new generation 3 1
Archetype Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Everything they do will be compared to 1D, not sure they can live up to that. 1
imabadkid Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Older people are so out of touch... now more than ever. Talk to teens and tweens, they don't care about boybands, actors, etc. They follow influencers... that's where the $$$$ is nowadays. 1

Simon was never any good at promoting his acts or properly developing them as artists. He just got lucky with One Direction.
Josh Posted June 4 Posted June 4 We literally had BTS for the new generation. They are the ultimate boy band 3 1 3 1 4

Because... Boyband is usually used for UK boy groups specifically. Busted, JLS, Take That were called Boybands. The show is being shot in the UK so I think that's what he meant. MatiRod Posted June 4 Posted June 4 One Direction blew up because they had massive exposure in the UK at first due to X Factor, which at its height like 1/5 of the country watched. Then that attention trickled into online communities which formed a fanbase for them elsewhere. K-Pop has a system in place but it also originates from media exposure in Korea then trickling into online fan communities that take the acts global. But you need that initial momentum coming from Korea itself. Clearly Simon means a Western boy band, but the problem is no one watches TV anymore in the west, certainly not the 13 year old girl target audience for this type of boy band. New stars are being created mainly through social media.

Gui Blackout Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Kpop has completely swallowed the market for boy/girl groups, even in the west. Labels need to let this go, it's not gonna happen anytime soon. 6

Pikachoo Posted June 4 Posted June 4 whatever happened to that band from X Factor he created, emblem3?
tbhmatt Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Is there really any demand out there right now for a boyband (that's not K-Pop)…?
