He was already huge in the country scene before that, and just continued growing despite the scandal. His core audience isn't pop so it didn't affect him.

Honestly I feared that his success was due to backlash against "wokeness" and cancel-culture. At this rate though it looks like one of his albums might be the biggest of the decade.

I don't listen to country music but i know some people irl who do and many like him because he actually serves quality when it comes to music. The backlash was never effective irl. If you talk too people about him irl nobody ever brings up the backlash or even remembers it.
