I'm not talking about the music but just about her image. I think the video of New Rules is the main reason that song (and her career) exploded. She was serving indie looking girl making commercial and generic big pop music. I think her appeal was that and what made her "different" as brand between the other big pop girls around. 

 

Then the girl give us nothing meme happened and she turned more and more in a sort of pop performer with visuals and staging very generic and already seen million times. Like the kinda of performance the 80% of every act on the Eurovision stage can make.

 

She went from having that "different girl vibe" to be dragged on reviews for having no personality and being "just an instagram model". 

I think it was a bad idea going from generic music to being generic also in the way she presents herself and the music. She made the biggest mistake you can make: trying to be interesting for the GP (gay) men stucked in the 2001.

Back in 2018, y'all dismissed Dua as someone who can't sing and dance and will just be a one hit wonder.

 

In 2020, y'all keep branding her mild debuts as flops and calling her 'nameless'. By this time, she has improved her singing and performing abilities by a significant margin.

 

In 2024, you want her to completely reverse all her growth as an artist just because she's not "different" as you want her to be?

 

RO knocks tbh. It's not screaming "anthemic pop" that we all want but it serves cohesion, maturity, and gradual growth from her previous work. Heck, RO isn't even the generic ass pop songs that are out right now like Espresso (which I love), which is a blatant copy of Say So. So I don't understand the lashing toward the album's theme. Maybe she had oversold the "psychedelia" nature of the album but we hear elements here and there throughout the record.

 

If I were Dua, I'd be confused as **** as to what people want. Glad she's doing music she likes and still trying to outdo her artistry EVEN after the mammoth of an era, Future Nostalgia. And she definitely smashed to pieces all those who labeled her a one hit wonder. Hate to break it to you, Dua is here to stay.

She sat through the entirety of Training Season video, I don't think her doing too much is the issue here ma'am

Yes, she made a meh album with RO, but let's not forget she gave us Future Nostalgia, one of the best pop albums of this decade. 

She never really gave, so no.

nah she made songs before that are bops, earworms, and addicting, of course with relatable/witty lyrics

even DL2 album tracks can be singles and are so catchy.
