Almodusa Posted April 22 Posted April 22 (edited) Twenty One Pilots has released a new single from their upcoming album Clancy! The video is directed by drummer Josh Dun. 1st and 2nd singles "Overcompensate" & "Next Semester" have already been released. Edited April 25 by Almodusa
CécredSpaces Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I used to be obsessed about them. But this Dema sh*t is so cringe. It was cute during Trench. But I didn't expect they would milk this stupid ass uninteresting story for two more albums. Nobody cares. Go back to making good songs. 1 1
Rih On The Brain Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I like the Stressed Out reference. All 3 songs from this album have been so good. Much better than the last album. 1
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted April 25 ATRL Moderator Posted April 25 I want to listen so badly, especially after loving Overcompensate and Next Semester, but I think I'm going to hold off until the album release. Wallows are doing a very similar roll out with three singles ahead of the album (and who knows maybe even more since both of these albums are still a month out.) I'm already properly fed with the first two songs but happy to see positive reactions online!

I ******* cant stand the "lore", just make good deep songs, PLEASE. Blurryface was cute and that that story/character was all they needed to continue with. But the rest of the lore/story is wayyyyyyyyyy too OTT. Blurryface as an alter ego was perfect. Everything else is, too much. The song is a BANGER though. 1

I've been a fan since Vessel lmao. I just... this band lowkey saved my life in 2015 and its why I even got into my career as a designer. Now its a constant theorising mess and its SO ******* annoying and takes away from the art. Tragic. I just use the music and throw the rest away. Its become wayyyyyyyyyy too much to follow. A Swiftie tea and its ******* annoying. I wish Blurryface was kept as a "character" but the lore? WAY too much going on for me to keep up. It REALLY takes away from Tylers talent which is genius.

Reading the lyrics makes no f**king sense if you don't already have an idea of what happened in Trench. Someone coming new to their music would be like, "What the f**k is Dema? Who the hell is Clancy? What's a Ned? Nico? The bishops? Vialism?" SHUT THE F**K UP! It's all too much. Anyway, are you Tyler W.? [Just guessing.]

[Just guessing.] Not Tyler W lol But completely agree, Tyler was a bit big headed saying during Trench they wanted to keep the "real fans" around and essentially maintain their fanbase as STRICTLY fans and not the GP... its very culty but I think he got burned from Stressed Out being so HUGE that he lost his original intention - to maintain the fanbase they built and kind of push away anyone who wasnt a "Clique" member. I get his sentiment to have a LOYAL stanbase be their core and only audience but at the same time he got burned in the long run cause commercially they were flopping during Trench etc. WAYYYYYYYYY too complex. They'll always be a success with an established cult for a fanbase but the GP wont care and I think they are having MAJOR issues with their label (lots of **** online about tension with Fueled By Ramen). Maybe Tyler is intentionally doing this to get out of their contract? He said Clancy is the last album in the lore. So I have a feeling this is his idea of getting the **** out of his record deal and go independent to have more creative freedom.

They have actually been quite patient with them. They have been delivering three GP-unfriendly flop albums in a row. Fueled also doesn't get money from their tour, so I understand them being miffed about not getting a return on their investment.
