The Slayer Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 Just now, glitch said: IMO any sensible label would've made it the lead single, but it almost wasn't a single at all. Perrie had to beg for it to be made a single. Then because of lockdown, it being the first single to get a proper video that wasn't a green screen'd mess and it getting a boost in streams when the album dropped (it was looking frontloaded for the first couple of weeks) all came together in a perfect storm for it to be a hit. Plus it being released towards the end of the year but just catching on early enough to not get completely drowned out by Christmas, meant that it was one of the bigger songs when the new year rolled around (hence the #1). The fans also rallied extra hard to make it number 1 as it was their last single as a four. I remember fans going HARD to make that number one happen.

Also, couldn't agree more all four girls are incredible vocalists and dancers. I don't know whether they personally wanted it to be the lead single, if I remember correctly Jade just said that the label were excited about it and it was one of the potential options they considered Jade also said she had a music video planned in her head for Nothing But My Feelings which was one of the worst songs on Confetti ddd. Their taste has been very… questionable at times

Whilst the song is...interesting, I understand why they thought this. Lyrically, whilst a bit ham fisted, the song is about people's misconceptions of them and owning the identity that's been thrust upon them. Plus the Simon Cowell shade would've made sense as one of the first songs they released after leaving his label. I think Jade and the others started to favour a "statement" song over looking for something that sounded like a hit. The same way they wanted Strip to be the lead of LM5, a song about female empowerment and body positivity.

I could tell based on the first listen it was a smash. It's giving releasing ME! instead of Cruel Summer. Some of these pop girls need to get some fans in the room to give a reality check. 1

Jade also said that at that time they (the girls) were pushing songs they wrote over songs they were given. That's why Break Up Song and Holiday were singles lol. 1

Gelato Posted April 22 Posted April 22 umm it sounds... well She and her team should consider re-releasing My Love. It only had two big UK performances as far as I can see (Children in Need and Jingle Bell Ball). Get a British rapper to be on a remix and try to get her back on radio again 1

alexaalto Posted April 22 Posted April 22 the snippet sounds like it could be one of those LM demos that got leaked she should get better producers/writers, not just because they are cool friends etc. there is many "unknown" great producers/writers she could work with and create quality music that is also in her taste and not just settle for these.... sounds. I was so exited when I need you leaked, Don't Say Love was great and My Love too, but the quality has declined after My Love as we have seen unfortunately. Stealin Love could've been amazing if it was produced more professionally, now it just lacks something (bridge, harmonies, vocal production, mixing). Hopefully the next track after this is the IT girl

LovaticSwiftie Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I love Leigh-Anne, I really do, but this kind of music won't do anything for her. It's such a shame, since every girl of Little Mix could've shined with the right material, but the only one who's going in the right direction is Perrie as of now. Jesy and Leigh can do and deserve better. 2

alexaalto Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) pre-save link is up https://leigh-anne.lnk.to/forbiddenfruit Edited April 26 by alexaalto
alexaalto Posted April 26 Posted April 26 wouldn't mind if that was the cover art, it is very pretty!
tbhmatt Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Well, the cover art and the visuals look like they'll be a little more interesting than Stealin Love so that's nice I hope the video isn't in black and white though nnnn. Not going to judge the song until I've heard it but the snippet is my least favourite of all she's released so far.
SinnerCity Posted April 26 Posted April 26 THIS ONE SOUNDS FANTASTIC!!!!! I'm still gagged she chose Don't Say Love to be her first single
tbhmatt Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Hopefully she releases the video on Friday too. I mean, the song isn't going to chart anywhere but those extra few streams would be nice. I hope the full version is better than the snippet, though. 1
paper moon Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt until the full song drops but it's not looking good for her unfortunately. I second the idea of re-releasing My Love.
