Brit Smith - "Karma's A B*tch"

It honestly sends me how Jojo Siwa thought she could get away with claiming she wrote a song that's 12 years old :rip: like it's one thing to use a writers demo, but to pass it off as something you were creatively involved in is something else

For being virtually unknown outside of the three random homosexuals in this thread, the fact that Brit has songs and accompanying MVs with Timbaland and Will.i.Am, the latter featuring a cameo by Betty White … what in the world :rip:

Right? The push she was primed to have… what could have possibly gone so wrong for Brit?

This song is horrible then and now. :thing: It sounds incredibly cheesy & dated and that's why it was never released.

"Can't Be Tamed" and it's video is also awful but yal girlies aren't ready to admit it :thing: thank god Miley was able to redeem herself with Bangerz

No lie I was annoyed for having "Karma" stuck in my head so I'm glad to know that there actually was a good/decent song underneath (the lyrics remain cringe tho).

label politics as some have said. Poor girl must've really had some bad luck considering first time around Jive got absorbed into RCA and she got lost in the shuffle I assume. I noticed her single under interscope was released in 2013 which is the same year Jimmy Iovine (President of the label at the time) decided to leave the company which probably caused massive shifts and some artists suffered as a result of the political landscape changing behind the scenes. Azealia Banks said something similar about his absence and how everything went to **** once he left the label in an interview years later so I can only assume the new executives probably didn't care for her.

All of this is so strange honestly and just goes to show how little creativity and originality there is these days in music

I'm surprised the song is even that recent, it sounds like it was produced around Y2K.

Both versions are horrible and should have stayed in the vault.

where is this narrative that she claims she wrote Karma coming from? i keep seeing people say this to drag her but she literally has said it was given to her

how do you film a whole music video and even have a beats product placement in it too and still not release it officially?

This rebrand has been nothing more than shambolic :rip:  Firstly, how was this scrapped when it seems clear there was a ton of budget put into the video (even though it has aged like milk by 2024 standards), two, how does this sound way better in this 2012 demo than the 2024 final release which sounds dated on arrival and thirdly, where can Jojo go from here?

Not clean version exist as well :gaycat7:

Apparently she confirmed it was label politics made her lost in the shuffles and left the music industry afterwards

…..y'all know this is how the music industry works right lol not saying it's how it should be but it's not like Jojo is a horrible person for recording and releasing this song. She's horrible for other reasons

It's true, everybody is dogpiling on Jojo Siwa for 'STEALING' the song, but there's literally no foul play and this happens all the damn time. Like by all means drag her for her dancing or the awful costumes, but releasing a song written for somebody else twelve years ago? Let's use some critical thinking, shall we?

Also I keep seeing 'Jojo claimed to write the song in an interview' but I have yet to see a clip of this interview. So until then, this is such a non-story.

Reading through the first couple of pages, her story sounds eerily similar to Katy Perry's... changed stage name multiple times, was in a group that didn't work out, label not sure what to do with her, album progress scrapped due to label being absorbed and changes in higher-ups... only this poor girl didn't have a Geli to literally steal her files and pitch her to another label. It's sad how the music industry can just chew up and spit out people like this. She probably could have filled an Ava Max-type slot in the 2008-2013 dance-pop era with the right push. Who knows what bops we may have missed out on?

Yeah I don't support the draggings JoJo is receiving for "stealing" these songs either. People just want something else to hate on, but in reality songs/demos being shopped around or recorded by one artist and then snatched by another before the first artist actually signs off on it are so common. Some artists record hundreds of songs before finalizing an album, and if a producer is getting antsy and wants that check and another artist is willing to provide it, of course they'll give them the song.
