On one hand, both versions of this are bad. Both of them sound dated as hell (even for 2012), and the lyrics are extremely corny. ...on the other hand, seeing the mess of Jojo getting humbled for all this buffoonery is lowkey hilarious so whatevs 1
Dante Silva Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Spoiler I'd better say this quietly but when that mod said they preferred the JoJo Siwa version of "Karma" over the Brit Smith version (in the Brit Smith thread, but not defined as trolling), they really did show their ass in the most inorganic way they really did not intend. I think it raises pertinent questions about ATRL's down-low links to executives at major labels and whether the whole site is being managed and used as a hype train designed to 'push' one artist with major label investment over another artist (who does not) and whether moderator's have a brief to shape discussion around one artist who has been designed to generate profit revenue in 2024 (over another who has not). 5 1

But the same people probably defend Madonna or Beyoncé when they add their own credits on song they didn't change at all.... exactly the sad thing is they're all believing a narrative from an edited tiktok, in the actual video she never claims to have written the song, the clip people are running with is her talking about doing an ad-lib in a completely different song i don't stan jojo or anything but people are being disgusting for no reason 3

Sis, are you unwell? There’s no conspiracy to say one version is slightly less bad than another. 3

Don't you think this site would have much less server issues and an owner who isn't continually ghosting the mod team if it were really managed by major labels? 3
tomo Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Damn, the producers and writers don't give a ****. They just want $$ I love her voice on this so much more
Dante Silva Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Anyway, I'm so happy Brit has made her own YouTube Channel and uploaded the video there. I just hope the hype surrounding the track lasts long enough to out perform the views of the unofficial YouTube VEVO rip (now in excess of 1.2 million). 1
Sannie Posted April 16 Posted April 16 13 hours ago, mathekr said: Because there's no such thing as "buying" the rights of a song. Labels basically pay for the songwriters to put the song on hold for artists and not shop them around. Once the song is out, this acts like a cover of the song. Even if it was recorded long before Jojo's version. As long as she cleared the rights with the songwriters and she owns the master recording, she's fine. That makes a lot of sense and explains it perfectly. 1

IBeMe Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I know even her version is basic AF but I LOVE the part that she says "when i saw the pics of u with her I felt the knife twist"...her vocals on that part are soooo addictive idk why. Like there's so much passion just randomly lol 2

The vibrato makes it feel so full of expression and emotion. It feels genuine when she sings that line which is such a random moment of vulnerability in what sounds like a pretty basic / generic throwaway track lol. I really enjoy how emotive that part sounds. I've literally rewinded back to that line like a million times now lol. Super pretty 1
Dante Silva Posted April 16 Posted April 16 The fact this success was never meant to happen makes me fascinated to hear what other music she has tucked away that no record label has any master plan to let us have. I don't know where they got the Spotify file from (I know others have commented on it being LQ) but the abrupt way it ends and the video screen grab as artwork makes it clear this whole success story is flying by the seat of its pants. The rawness and unplanned nature of it all is exciting and feels both homespun and intimate in a way that gives this release an edge that no record company could manufacture by design. 3
