100% agree with you. On one hand, both versions of this are bad. Both of them sound dated as hell (even for 2012), and the lyrics are extremely corny.

I'd better say this quietly but when that mod said they preferred the JoJo Siwa version of "Karma" over the Brit Smith version (in the Brit Smith thread, but not defined as trolling), they really did show their ass in the most inorganic way they really did not intend.

I think it raises pertinent questions about ATRL's down-low links to executives at major labels and whether the whole site is being managed and used as a hype train designed to 'push' one artist with major label investment over another artist (who does not) and whether moderator's have a brief to shape discussion around one artist who has been designed to generate profit revenue in 2024 (over another who has not).

Don't you think this site would have much less server issues and an owner who isn't continually ghosting the mod team if it were really managed by major labels?

There's a very subtle vibrato on the 'twist' there, which gives that part vocal nuance and makes it feel very addictive.

omg good ear tbh! you're right. The vibrato makes it feel so full of expression and emotion. It feels genuine when she sings that line which is such a random moment of vulnerability in what sounds like a pretty basic / generic throwaway track lol. I really enjoy how emotive that part sounds. I've literally rewinded back to that line like a million times now lol. Super pretty

The fact this success was never meant to happen makes me fascinated to hear what other music she has tucked away that no record label has any master plan to let us have. 
 

I don't know where they got the Spotify file from (I know others have commented on it being LQ) but the abrupt way it ends and the video screen grab as artwork makes it clear this whole success story is flying by the seat of its pants.

 

The rawness and unplanned nature of it all is exciting and feels both homespun and intimate in a way that gives this release an edge that no record company could manufacture by design.
