Eat The Acid Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Why has this MID song from 2013 now got two re-releases. Unrelease it FAT. 1 1
dumbsparce Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) So did JoJo "steal" it or has this version never been out until now so JoJo did everything she needed to do legally to obtain rights to record it? A Britney VS some unknown girl group Out From Under tea Edited April 15 by dumbsparce 1
Dante Silva Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Brit comes across as a genuinely sincere person. So much so that I hope this opportunity leads to something greater for her. I definitely think she is the Pop girl of the moment and I believe the potential of her in having the ATRL banner would be more impactful on her and of greater significance than its present recipient. 8
Alex Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Brit deserves another chance at a career tbqh, I hope she considers a true comeback. Her (limited) discography is actually great and if Bonnie McKee can do it, so can she

A Britney VS some unknown girl group Out From Under tea I do not think Jojo stole it, but I am also confused how Brit Smith can release it if Jojo bought it? ---- Jojo digging herself into a hole over and over again with everything she says.

This, I don't get why social media is out to "J Lo" her when this song was obviously shopped around for a decade before ending up as a Jojo release. People are doing the MOST for a very mediocre song they would have panned if the original artist released it Edited April 16 by Reginald

Because there's no such thing as "buying" the rights of a song. Labels basically pay for the songwriters to put the song on hold for artists and not shop them around. Once the song is out, this acts like a cover of the song. Even if it was recorded long before Jojo's version. As long as she cleared the rights with the songwriters and she owns the master recording, she's fine. 1

I don't think it's necessarily illegal, as long as the writer/composer agrees. A similar situation happened with LeToya Luckett recording a song Asia Cruz released in early '00s called "Tears". It's the exact same song + producer and everything. Asia had already stopped doing music atp, so she didn't care to promote her version like Brit is doing. But I think as long as singer pays the writer/composer, it's technically not illegal. It's no different than an artist doing a cover song I would think. It's just not that common that a singer would tap an old already-pseudo-released song as a new lead single But I do think if Jojo makes a stink about this…could make ppl examine if it's fair legally. Especially if this continues to happen to other artists. But right now it's not illegal to my knowledge.
GardenPanty Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Do the vocals sound weird to anyone else on the streaming version? Like they're a bit ahead of the beat

Like they're a bit ahead of the beat Yes, and the levels/mixing is a little weird too. It's overpowering the vocals. But to be fair, she prob didn't have chance to mix it properly, esp if she wanted capitalize on the moment.
iiswhoiis_max Posted April 16 Posted April 16 OMG imagine how Jojo must feel when your own song "you wrote about your ex girlfriend" is charting higher from another artist x) Karma literally
professor2000 Posted April 16 Posted April 16 (edited) Not this getting an ATRL announcement Not Spotify playing Danity Kane "Bad Girl" + Gaga's "Poker Face" right after I streamed this song. They know the vibes lol. Edited April 16 by professor2000
