nooniebao Posted April 13 Posted April 13 She's essentially starting over after how In Pieces was received in virtually every way. Only good thing to come out of the era (in terms of her standing in the music industry) is that she's maybe beginning to establish herself solo as a touring/festival act. 8

She's going to need to commit to a sound and come out swinging with her next few releases, like no misses, to build her brand back up and get people interested again. And I wouldn't give up on Boy Bye either. Even if it's not a hit (it should be), most agree it's a step in the right direction and should serve as a foundation moving forward. 1

I'm not giving up on boy bye because I actually enjoy the song……I'm just shocked to see it debuting lower than fys which didn't have any visuals or that much promo….. I really want the best for her but her label is just not doing anything to help 2
Capria Posted April 13 Posted April 13 (edited) Like I'm confused why wouldn't the label send it to radio….. Edited April 13 by Capria

Cbreezy Posted April 13 Posted April 13 (edited) I'm intrigued about her career. Like everything about it. All at once she's doing all the things. Music, acting, brand deals, major stages. She also has indisputably authentic brand recognition in her lane (Urban audience). Initially by way of the Bey connection, but now by way of being covered on The Shade Room and similar, and generally all the places she pops up (e.g. shows like Swarm). But at the same time, her music doesn't...do anything. Nor is it getting much better. That whole odd "she does too much" social media discourse didn't really help either. I get the sense the label like how self-sufficient she is but don't really care to invest. She sings, she writes, she produces, and she actively strives to release regularly. But her whole solo career (besides Have Mercy and maybe Treat Me) feel kinda "just because" rather than being any kind of priority. It's like they let her do what she wants, if it does well they'll amplify, but if not..meh. It's pretty unconventional, as most other labels would have dropped an act that wasn't performing. Even if the issue was, like it is here, that they aren't backing said act. And yet, Chloe remains on the roster...and releasing. Total conjecture, but I wonder if she's kept on the roster and passively allowed to release because of the Bey/Parkwood connection? Bey is a big deal at Columbia and I imagine they want her there in perpetuity (forever) so may agree to provide "label services" to the artists on her label so long as she herself is on the roster? Would explain why Chloe keeps having her music technically released but the effort feels more contractual than prioritized. That or maybe Columbia see the value in a Chloe X Halle project so are keeping them both on the roster solo to not complicate the contractual side of things when they come back together. Because Halle is basically in the same predicament, but has the buffer of her acting success. I really wish her well, but I get the feeling she'll need to spring from some aspect of her current music setup to stand any chance of thriving. I don't think it's a Parkwood issue, as that seems to be where her actual opportunities are coming from. And the Bey connect can only be a good thing. I think it's more Columbia. She's so talented that a label actively inentivized to push her and invest in her would see quick returns IMO, as all she needs is the right songs, and strategized positioning (aka fill a void that another Pop girls aren't). popularmoonlight Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I honestly just don't like this song? It's weird to me because I usually enjoy Chloe's music but this feels so out of place with the rest of her music and the MV doesn't help either Might say this could be of the reasons she isn't connecting to the audience. But obviously wishing her good luck, hope there's more gems on her next album
collin Posted April 13 Posted April 13 This is her best single since Surprise. I hope this can do something, it sounds like a hit to me.
nooniebao Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I just don't see this happening unless she has a truly mega viral moment unfortunately. And I say this as the song has been growing on me over the last 30-ish hours.

I think she is just now starting to realize the importance of this, she had great singles during the Have Mercy era but the way she moved and presented herself as an artists wasn't very intentional. It was more like she was just experimenting. The only way for her to get a hit is to find a sound that tiktok will latch onto, unfortunately the label is not interested in sending her songs to the radio even though it's helped so many other artists with singles that "flopped" at first (what it is, feather and ICU come to mind) 1

Flocon Posted April 14 Posted April 14 The way the audience fucks with the song during the Coachella live, this is so refreshing to watch !
