This song should be on Hot Country as well. Why does she/her team do this. As if missing out on 3 days of sales isn’t enough. So annoying. 2
rihannafan Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) This is kinda reminding me of 1+1 Edited February 12 by rihannafan
Vermillion Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The slew of down arrows to my last post as if I trashed this track are…hilarious. I said I loved it but would’ve preferred a different vocal delivery in parts that I’ve heard her do on other tracks, that’s it. The reverent gospel aesthetic is probably deliberate in parts but for me is incongruous to some of the production and the lyrics themselves. The sensitivity from the hive I’m seeing on multiple outlets and boards surrounding this track is…intense…as if Bey’s being told she’s not allowed to do country from multiple outlets, which isn’t true. Variety said “country-influenced” and you’ve got thesis in response on the slave trade. Like, breathe. Nashville is still hostile to its current black country artists, as several black female country artists have said on multiple panels easily searchable on YouTube. It’d be incredible if the Hive could change that overnight but we all know that’s not going to happen. For all this energy on criticism to be put into a genre Beyonce isn’t staying in long-term seems wasted to me but whatever.
Lose My Breath Posted February 12 Posted February 12 God, this song is gorgeous. It took a few listens to really get it, but it's heavenly Both tracks are some of the best she has ever done, for sure 1
Kool_Aid_King Posted February 12 Posted February 12 What a great song, probably her most introspective
Karla Cabello Posted February 12 Posted February 12 i first read this as "16 miscarriages" and was like damn 1 2
wildsidenormani Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I can’t stop playing this. One of her best songs lyrically 1

Mystic Warrior Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Gorgeous production and vocals, per usual, but nothing turns me off faster than billionaires feigning struggle. That’s just a personal issue though, the song itself is definitely a work of art. 1

She may be a billionaire now, but she wasn't always, and she worked really hard and sacrificed a lot in her childhood. I do understand what you're saying though. 3

pavi Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Looooving this song, for sure my favourite of the two The build up / production is immaculate

I do not doubt she worked hard in her craft, but she was signed to Columbia at 15 years old and Beyoncé has been a household name for a majority of her life. Plus, a lot of the lyrical content is about how she’s struggling because she’s so in demand. I will never deny her talent as a performer or vocalist, but I could be spared some of the crocodile tears. 2 1

TipToe Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Love this sing, hope she releases a video for it this year lol
BnPac Posted February 12 Posted February 12 But the song talks about being 15, overworked, underpaid and overwhelmed. Leaving her childhood’s home and spending all her time on the road to make it. I mean it’s not like DC just made it overnight. She also referenced watching her mom cry because of her dad’s lies and having to swallow all her own problems, I doubt you stop feeling those emotions because you’re signed to Columbia. 2 1
Truth Teller Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Definitely the better song of the two. It is however let down by the fact that it's basically one melody throughout. Don't think I'll be replaying it much, but it's solid. Ugh I don't care for country though. I want that Prince-lite, Schoolin Life-esque album. Or a Jill Scott / Amel Larrieux sounding album full of Plastic Off The Sofa's. But she's the artist, so... let's see I guess? I'll try to get excited for this. No Beyonce lead has ever been my favorite or even near-favorite on any of her albums except for Deja Vu, so...

Automatic Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I know it's too early to be thinking about this but the thought of the vocals she'll serve performing this live

I assume this was meant to be a response to me, and as I said, I do not doubt she worked hard and felt many real and valid emotions, but she is not only singing from her time in DC, she’s talking about the present and how overwhelmed she is from being so in demand and just wants to be with her kids. Such a struggle for a billionaire, no doubt.
spiritboy Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Is there a special meaning the term 16 carriages? Does it represent something? I might have missed something as English is not my native language.
