Augmented Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Her vocal delivery on this really is immaculate, it starts so delicate and gets stronger the more the production builds until all the stunning harmonies near the crescendo of the song, then back to delicate at the very end. 3
The Man Who Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I was interested in hearing this song as I love country music and I was intrigued to see what Beyoncé would do, but I had to turn it off halfway through. Her vocal delivery / melody is really grating and that constant ‘drum beat’ during the chorus is so ******* annoying. 2 2
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted February 12 ATRL Moderator Posted February 12 My god she sounds absolutely heavenly. She has one of the clearest tones out there and immense control. Excited to hear more
chaklux Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I’m really surprised some people on atrl don’t like this song. It is fire , super amazing . GP love it so far also. 4

Mr.X Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Wow the dissapointment is real... I was expecting Bey to do something interesting, dive into the genre and twist it. But this just sounds like a 'AI beyonce doing country' that randomly turns up on your timeline. Dissapointing indeed. 1 2

Digitalism Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I can get over the drums being so loud It really ruins the mood 1
kindararenext Posted February 12 Posted February 12 one of her best songs ever what a legendary project we're witnessing, she always outdoes herself 1

Lyrically / thematically it’s great. I just found it hard to enjoy because of the production / melody. But, if her fans are eating it up, then that’s all that matters as they’re the ones streaming it at the end of the day.

What I'm saying is that the repeated melody and that intense production is all part of illuminating the meaning insofar as translating it into musical emotion. The production doesn't really let up, it reflects on the meaning of the song itself. In my opinion, she's prioritized all that over if the song conforms to what our ears are used to hearing in a pop song.
