AFullMoonlight Posted March 28 Posted March 28 She really said screw that under two minute songs nonsense.
BnPac Posted March 28 Posted March 28 So I finished my first listen of the album, musically individual songs are strong but it's not an easy flowing album listen to me, I'm also on YTB so that might impact the experience a bit but tbh it'll be the 2nd album from Beyoncé where I will not always listen the album from start to finish. Stand-outs for me : AMERIICAN REQUIEM 5:26 - Just incredible, mind-blowing how she continues to grow so much. But it's such a bombastic opening, it makes the rest of album a bit understated. PROTECTOR 3:05 DAUGHTER 3:24 - The vocals at the end are beautiful. I had hoped she would go even higher like Otherside or Bow Down but great still. LEVII'S JEANS (feat. Post Malone) 4:18 I knew they could rock together. YA YA 4:35 TYRANT 4:11 SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIN 4:57 I think the album shouldn't be discovered with ads in between like I have done. I didn't think about that or I would have just waited for tomorrow because I am too lazy to delete my Spotify and redownload it just to go to NZ. As a full album it will probably grow on me with each listen. I will go back to Riverdance and Bodyguard a second time before moving on to a new listen because I haven't grasped what you guys see. 1
WeFoundWill Posted March 28 Posted March 28 TYRANT A HITTTTTTTT That's kinda the most pop we heard her in ages? nnn Old Time Road coded in the sense that it's trap with country elements
redsbae Posted March 28 Posted March 28 RIVERDANCE, SWEET HONEY, DAUGHTER, YAYA >>> this album is everything 1
IMadeYouReadThis Posted March 28 Posted March 28 I'm halfway but I dont think it's ever going to be possible to think about any song off this album separately from the album as a whole she put her whole Beyussy into it and the result is absolutely insane 1

BlackoutZone Posted March 28 Posted March 28 So many songs and so much narrative around an album with essentially so little substance (for her standards)? I felt like, for most, the only Beyoncé thing about it was the fact she sung it. The Spaghetti intro being a statement fitting for Bey and her usually exceptional genre bending, but the horrendous song coming after sums up how this album works, or actually, how it doesn't. All of the non-country moments feel forced, neither they fit the record sonically nor they sound progressive enough to justify the break of overall cohesion. While the straight up country songs are just.. ok at best. Many of the tracks also drag, they lack structural choices that would keep them exciting throughout (like 16 Carriages, American Requiem or Ya Ya which are great and up her usual standards). Very mixed on this. I remember hating BMS hard and setting expectations for the record low, but God damn the first listen of Ren was an experience I'll cherish forever. Here on the other hand, there is none of that thrill. I've skimmed through the thread and seen lots of acclaim so I hope it grows on me over time, but this is not the trip I hoped it would be. 3 7
