also the producer is one of the L4 producers Jim-E Stack omg

Big sigh of relief from a lot of people I'm sure.

I liked the track, just a few changes in the production. I don't think any of the artists have strayed too far from the original have they?

Nothing on her web site or instagram so far, and she doesn't use any other social media.

Have any of the artists actually promoted their songs on this album?

I think we'll either get an email/instagram story or nothing

Oh this is not...

Burning Down The House got dramatically improved, but Psycho Killer & Once In A Lifetime? :rip: girl.

Psycho Killer especially is getting dragged all over Reddit :rip: the ATRL single thread is the only place i'm seeing praise for it :rip:

Hayley you will always be famous

going in on this. list of acts is largely not promising (i'll live a few lifetimes before i need to hear anything else by the national) but miley singing "i love the psycho kiler, hold me like a gorilla" is iconic behaviour

that reviewer is a bore, very 'i don't like it when they play them the same, i don't like it when they don't' (miley isn't always great but that kind of po-faced take about her is a massive red flag imo).

i thought it was not bad tbh. it is a bit boring when they play them exactly the same, i don't necessarily mind 'burning down the house' or 'this must be the place' but i can't really imagine wanting to hear these versions rather than the originals. chicano batman's corsseyed and painless is great but that's because the og version is great and it's an absolute carbon copy. that said, i did really enjoy girl in red, linda lindas and lorde even tho they weren't very different. the national were predictably bad.

i did think some of the (slightly) more creative takes were good, i really liked genius of love and the gothic folk version of swamp a lot. psycho killer is hilarious and a lot of fun, i have no time for people who sit there with their fingers steepled getting all precious about "the classics". that said, ditching the chorus in 'once in a lifetime' is a choice that might have been better reconsidered.

can i see myself listening to this again? idk, halfway i'd have just said that i'd go back to miley, the rest i found myself enjoying a lot more but in the end it might be that i'd just listen to a talking heads album instead

I'm just catching up with the reviews. They were positive about some songs I guess:

There are a few exceptions: Lorde's Take Me to the River and the Linda Lindas' Found a Job are at least spirited and fun, and Argentinian band El Mato a un Policia Motorizado's Spanish-language take on Slippery People is slickly enigmatic.

The real drags are coming from Paste Magazine:

Miley Cyrus kicks off the party with "Psycho Killer," and it sounds like she's doing a Lady Gaga impersonation rather than a Talking Heads homage. The way that the melody of this cover sounds so much like "Bad Romance," they should have just invited Gaga to tackle this track herself.

I can't really say they lied here.
