I have a massive array of musical taste ranging from early pre-war 40s songs and songs by Judy Garland, Doris Day, etc. Up to the current, despite being a gen Z ranging from early to the current era. I also work as an activity coordinator in long term care and retirement homes so I know 60's musical trivias and such . Aside from Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn are some of the current old folks' faves and stans during their heydey. Edited December 29, 2023 by QueenofCopyPaste 1

What's newer and bigger? With that qualifier, yes. But I don't feel that it's ubiquitous during the holiday season yet. I could just be mistaken though.

Extremely organic also seeing as she was by far the less playlisted song, by far the less radio supported song, had no physical singles on sale ( her physicals were for the album of the same name) versus Mariah who had signed vinyl and CD available, and 2 videos, versus Mariah's 5. Just organic demand and GP interest, whereas Mariahs two weeks were fuelled by stan activity and radio. Well done to both ladies ! We love fictional stories like these.

pride4jc1222 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 This is so stupid, lol. Either recurrent rules need to be suspended for the holiday season or make songs that went recurrent during the holiday season be ineligible to re-enter afterwards. I think it's arbitrary and inconsistent that Calm Down (and I absolutely hate the song) wasn't allowed to re-enter the week after Drake wrecked the charts, but Snooze is allowed to re-enter after this one week break.

In November Brenda Lee finally issued HER official RATCT music video & "Little Miss Dynamite" version 2 weeks ago. I don't think her Christmas At The Opry performance counts as a separate video since it credits NBC instead of Lee So RATCT has 4. BUT Lee only released 2 of those herself. The others were released by "Christmas Music" which did the same with many older Christmas songs. So you are correct in that Lee only released 2 but RATCT has 4 clips. @spree The older songs keep hogging the airplay even though the newer songs have more consumption. Cher is a perfect example this year as well. Yes UTT & STM had more sales & streaming than many songs above it. But stations want to play what's decades old & familiar with listeners, even if they're streamed & bought less. Nothing by "christmas music" counts for billboard, only uploads on the artists official channel.

All they said was that Brenda benefitted from being on the classics playlist while Mariah is not ( although Mariah is overall FAR more playlisted ) That is all they said, and in fact, it wasnt "billboard" it was ONE of their staff !!

Here we have Brenda who literally only has 200-300 million total streams from non-holiday music and 400 million from non-RATCT. Mariah's non holiday catalogue is 6,1 BILLION streams. (2,6 billion for her xmas catalogue incl. all songs). 6,9 billion without AIWFCIY. Madonna has 6,8 billion total career streams. And yes, before you narrate some ish like Xmas fad singer or sth... Mariah has 3 Christmas albums (not just 1 song). (among them some 20 original songs).

Billboard addressed the issue with Playlisting in regards to Brenda taking the #1 (and not Mariah)... go figure. Post it.

And like I said, all they said was that Brenda benefitted from being on it. Which is just common sense. Even though Mariah remains the far greater playlisted song. Billboard also addressed the issue of Mariah releasing a 5th video, having a discount and selling physical CDs and Vinyl at her concert the weeks she went to no 1. Mariah also has a massive advantage on radio. What's your point exactly ? Each song has advantages and disadvantages at certain formats and in certain areas. Your attempts to discredit Brenda, a 79 year old woman, are nothing short of tragic. Get some fresh air. 2

Yeah, Billboard's recurrency rules have been an arbitrary mess for a while now. A song that goes recurrent is allowed to re-enter essentially whenever Billboard feels like the vibes are right for it to do so Something In The Orange by Zach Bryan would probably be at like 85 weeks on the Hot 100 by now if it hadn't gone recurrent during Travis Scott's album bomb and then not been allowed to re-enter despite having more than enough points to be in the Top 25
