If true, this is amazing. So nice not seeing Mariah at the top of the charts at the very start of the season. Maybe we’ll all have a great holiday season

Hopefully Brenda can get the W for at least one week this year and then Wham! and some others can start as well eventually. Mariah getting a guaranteed month every single year has gotten extremely stale and it'll be annoying when she dethrones Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus and permanently holds the song with the most weeks at #1 purely by default.

I mean I think people forget that Brenda did absolutely nothing for the song until this year. Because of the anniversary. She probably won't bother to do anything again next year. The only artist who actively promotes Christmas stuff has been Mariah. Maybe more will do it after this, when they see what is possible.

Carey & Lee are still with us. Bobby Helms, George Michael & Burl Ives have all passed away. I don't know if Andrew Ridgeley has enough interest in trying to get Last Christmas to #1 in the US to do the needed promo. To this point the other songs are too far behind to challenge for #1.

honestly I think that’s what Mariah should be more worried about, if Brenda hits #1, other artists will realize that it’s possible and will start putting in the work next few years.

Yeah i mean Kelly and Ariana could easily take their songs into the top 10 with a little push. Ari could probably get to top 5 if she went hard with signed singles and stuff. But she never even mentions it !

Why would that be annoying exactly? Especially if that is the song holding the record currently

Until now, from the whole acts with big Xmas classics, Mariah has been the only one promoting and she has done so consistently for more than 5 years, there were even remixes with Bieber at some point. The new generation knows it better. So on a tight race and in the heart of Xmas, I don't see it losing. However this proves that if other tried as hard as she has or even less, they have a shot.

It wasn’t about the promoting - it was about the adjustment of playlists. Brenda has always been close thanks to the Christmas Classics playlist. This year Pandora’s exclusion of Mariah and Brenda being #1 and #2 on the playlist with 72 million listeners tipped it. 

 

Mariah’s song spent 15 years organically rising to its throne before she ever did much with it outside of a random tour performance. To imply that the song’s status was because of promoting is disingenuous.

Specially the one that go Top 10 every year.

 

What makes you think if they start promoting,  they won't rise? 

If Ariana tries she herself could improve her position on chart every year by lot.
