I don't understand the attempt to downplay streaming units at this point. There were countless artists who racked up 30M+ album sales in a few years back in the heyday of album sales - Britney, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Eminem, Mariah, Garth Brooks, Norah Jones, Shania, Spice Girls, Destiny's Child, Celine, Amy Winehouse, Usher, Linkin Park, hell even Nickelback. Do people really think no artists today are seeing the level of consumption of those countless hordes from the 90s/00s?

Atrl always downplaying streaming when it comes to RIAA certifications and album units but l use them daily to drag artist they don’t like.

Wow. Gonna surpass Christina, Katy, and Miley soon

Billie has amazing pure sales for a streaming era artist. Don’t Smile At Me has 8b streams and 1m pure sales. It was massive just a slow burner. WWAFAWWG is almost at 17m units and HTE is a good success at 7m units. It’s simple math if you press the link.

This is why I can't take Charmasters Seriously. That figure is absolutely ridiculous. No Shade to Billie

And to think some ATRL users keep saying HTE was a sophomore slump.

It’s always funny when people try to shade Chartmasters for “inflating” but will believe the numbers that labels throw out of nowhere as gospel (which are probably much higher for Billie than 43M), or better yet those “club sales” that were used for all those pre-digital artists.

Outside of certifications, there really is no tracking for this kind of thing anyway. All of it is guesstimates. She’s the biggest streaming act and pure sale seller out of Gen Z, so it’s not too hard to believe. And contrary to what people think, streaming doesn’t just hand out 10M selling albums so easily just because they have hits. TUN, Ed Sheeran post-Divide, Harry’s House, Drake post-2018, etc. all had huge hits that didn’t translate to 10M album units. Seeing as her albums are either bought or fully consumed via streaming nothing about this is surprising aside from her being 21 years old and having a career like this.

But unlike pure sales, streaming can last for 5-6 years will pure sales die down after 3 years at the longest. Most albums back then didn't sell much after the one or 2 years. And streaming pretty much sabotage the all time chart as even a mediocre success album now can be able to chart in Top albums for like a year.

Anyway, nothing against streaming unit. I'm fine with that. Just using that to compare with artists who debuted in early 00s is extremely unfair. They debuted during the album sales had decline and single success is neglected. Artists should only be compared with those who debut around their time.

I'm not against streaming units, I just thought that the all time charts are completely bs.
