It was until 1998 that all radio formats contributed to the BBH100. So many songs were robbed throughout the 90s, especially rock and r&b songs which were outselling pop artists for a good portion of the 90s. A lot of the pop songs were restricted though, and were basically caried by radio. Late 90s specially, when record labels decided to focus on album sales rather than having a song hit #1 on the Hot 100

If anything most rock bands (such as No Doubt) released even less commercial singles. Rock radio stations weren't included on the Hot 100 Airplay charts which is silly because the charts weren't a true reflection of "the hottest 100 songs in America".

Probably the most anticipated lead single of the 90s. Thank U peaked at #2 on radio, the problem is that Billboard changed the rules when the song was already falling on radio so it charted low (also it didn't have sales because it was an airplay only single to boost album sales) 2
jdanton2 Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 i like most of the top 10 but i never liked Iris. it is interesting that Britney dropped that week from #14 to #18 . it would moved up to #10 without all those debuts.

MusicLoverDude Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 This chart forced The Boy Is Mine off the hot 100 finally along with that Five song and a LOT of songs were pushed down the Hot 100 This was truly a mess. Torn could have made the year-end of the Hot 100 over some of the forgotten 1998 hits had it been able to chart 1
