I’m taking about 1989TV on the Spotify charts. She’s #1 because she’s the biggest female right now and no one is arguing with that. The issue at hand is that she’s NOT MJ or Madonna level in those countries mentioned (or most other places) because she would’ve been occupying the entire Top 10 there as well but she’s not. This is about her fans putting her on the same

level as Madonna or The Beatles outside of Anglosphere when she’s clearly not. 
 

There’s not the same hype for her outside of Anglosphere, she doesn’t chart as well there and doesn’t sell as much as in the US. She has a looooong way to go to outchart and outsell MJ or Madonna in most individual places regardless how her sales in the Anglosphere are. 
 

Madonna is the biggest female in most countries. Taylor Swift is not even close. Adele is closer in terms of sales. And most of us here that live outside of Anglosphere and have experience the peaks of Adele or Lady Gaga know that Swift is nowhere near the status y’all make her out to be. She’s close in the US but she’s simply nothing more than the current IT girl in most other places. She doesn’t have record breaking sales there. 
 

The only part of this that’s stupid is the fact that this simply does not satisfy the Swifties. She has to be THE biggest of ALL-TIME or it’s trolling. What’s up with that?

Taylor Swift is bigger in some countries, Madonna is bigger in others, Swift is gonna catch up in some others. Madonna released her first album 23 years before Taylor, meaning she had much more time to accumulate units around the globe (especially considering Swift's first 3 efforts were country albums, local to NA). Let's see where Swift will be in 23 years. She's only been getting bigger in bigger in around the world so why wouldn't that trend continue? 

 

In the meantime, without cherry picking countries, Swift is the only one coming for Madonna's total units. She's not there yet obviously. But considering the current trend that's all but guaranteed she'll surpass her career totals in 3 years at most. So with 20 years to spear. 

 

Acting like it's disrespectful to put Taylor in the same league as Madonna success-wise is ludicrous. 

 

EDIT: that'll be my last post regarding this off-topic. Here we are celebrating yet another career high for Taylor and 1989 TV's success in the US, which is mind-blowing.

So I guess back then when MJ and Madonna released albums they were 10/10 of the top 10 single charts in all countries right (or would have been because it cannot be tracked for obvious reasons)?

Like, it’s a normal question to your “she’s bigger than MJ” narrative. It doesn’t look like this from

outside of the US. 

Michael Jackson at his peak wouldnt have dominated the Spotify singles charts in every single country (with album tracks even.... like... 1989 TV doesnt have a single. No video, nothing on TTH). He absolutely wouldnt have. A lot of the countries you listed are completely dominated by local acts. 

 

The album will still go #1 in most countries, because people stream all her album tracks and she has people actually buying her albums everywhere.

Madonna's total sales are 400M, Taylor has not reached that number yet. I think she probably surpassed Madonna when it comes to touring but not in overall record sales yet.
