Megan Thee Stallion - "Cobra"

Idk… It’s so short and feels like it just scratches the surface for an introspective pour-your-heart-out kind of thing and the production is a bit unimaginative compared to other female rock rap of recent years. I respect her for putting this out, though.

The video ATE.

Honest thoughts.

Pros: This is her best visuals to date. She's struck a balance between giving bawdy while still being artistic and having a central theme throughout the video. It's also her most lyrically vulnerable song, outside of Anxiety, which I appreciate in this climate of rap where everyone constantly wants to flex and brag, but refuses to show any other side of themselves.

Con: I usually despise when people say she has the same flow/cadence/whatever, but this is one instance where I do wish she switched up her delivery or at least moved away from the usual adlib over usage. It just makes it sound so much like her previous work and doesn't do the record as a whole much justice.

Interested in seeing her direction for this new era.

EXCELLENT. She really did her big one on this, great beat & the lyrics truly cut deep I really hope she’s doing okay and is getting the help she needs. :monkey:

I do wish it had a hook but I honestly don’t think this song was meant to be a hit anyway, to me Megan is just being vulnerable and open about where she is currently in life and what she went through to get there.

Really like this but the outro goes on for too long. I needed more Megan :jonny:

I think I prefer Out Alpha The Alpha :rip: That song has been on repeat since it dropped.

Great visuals. Song is also interesting enough but it doesn't scream hit. Maybe she is doing it for the arts this time? idk

Incredible visuals & very impressive that she pulled it off without label backing but at times it felt like they were for a different song.

I’m conflicted. I love that she’s addressing vulnerabilities, but the cadence & flow are almost like they were written for a different beat - the instrumental itself is fire, I love the sinister vibes & the  guitar is awesome, but there’s a jarring discrepancy with the delivery.

I know the “aye”, “ah” is like her signature, but those adlibs just don’t work here & pull me right out of the mood the track is trying to set.

There aren’t really any bars to write home about, but I actually appreciate the straight-forward frankness of it.

The chorus is abysmal & is ultimately what will not want me to revisit this. “This ussy depressed” is not something I want to chant or play.

The final choreo scene of the video is amaze, her athleticism is unmatched.

I think she was able to do what was needed with this. Talking your ish and let the lyrics speak for itself. I do think the chorus on this is kinda lame tho. The “this pumpum depressed” couldve been something else. Sad to hear she suffers with suicidal ideation and depression.

The production and music video are excellent, especially the production - it's top-notch. However, I agree with others about the flow and lyrical approach being a bit 50/50. While the verses are strong, the chorus disappoints me. The line "This p*ssy depressed" disrupts the introspective and serious mood of the rest of the song, and the adlibs cheapen the overall message. It's disheartening because the potential for this song to be amazing is evident. Without bringing up *that* lady, tracks like "All Things Go" should serve as a blueprint for female rappers exploring introspective rap from a female-rap perspective. If you choose that path, commit to it fully; don't attempt to straddle the line between deep and creating a catchy hit.

The beat is absolute FLAMES... Great beat, she's going in with the lyrics too, I just wish that the chorus was stronger. An okay song, I like the direction with the beat, more of these beats please.

Best music video of the year.

The song is a cute moment.

the outro is a lil too long in my opinion

I wish the song was a bit longer but this is definitely a statement song and I applaud her for being so open about her personal struggles when you don’t really see much of that these days (Escapism. really is the only other hit song that comes to mind that covers topics people usually want to avoid in music)

I’m missing a hook, and “this ***** despressed” isn’t exactly enthralling or catchy, but I assume that wasn’t the point for the song.

Visuals are amazing as expected.

If this is her Attention, I can’t wait for her PTTR.

Her features are always better... tbh

But it's cute; I think I'm missing a catchy melody.

Kinda lukewarm on first listen but I wish her the best.

right i was kinda concerned after my first listen

but she’s obviously a fighter and putting it in the music

Visuals are amazing but the song is nothing special. She talks about a very sensitive and serious topic but it's hard to take those lyrics seriously when the chorus starts with lines: This ***** depressed. I can't help but cringe.

Great vid but this will flop :rip:

You thought she was looking for a hit and the song don’t have a hook? Y’all got to stop being delusional for once. She’s talking about what she went through
