pretty accurate, disagree with the ranking.

should be Madonna, Mariah, then Rih but i assume they including Rih single sales

edit: wait Whitney should be here too?

Interesting! Have they posted their figures? I'm guessing it's all the albums-plus-singles method used for Madonna's 400m figure, but I honestly don't know what the others' would be off the top of my head, or any artists who didn't make the top five.

Celine is definitely there before Beyonce I would think.

On the original article, they had Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adele, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga making out the rest of the top ten. (I can’t remember the order).

It seems as though they’ve removed it and just left the top five.

Well, that's "record sales", which is a questionable methodology where singles sales and album sales have the exact same worth. Using that methodology, someone like Chris Brown is a "better selling" artist than Adele, Barbra Streisand, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Britney Spears, Prince, Frank Sinatra, etc.

Take that as you will :suburban:

I’m sure certain individuals will still claim CM to be the holy grail of best selling artist listings, as noted above.

Guinness use the "record sales", which means the singles sales + pure album sales and they didn't include streams

According to ChartMaster:

Madonna 146m pure albums sales + 64m other LP + 75m physical single + 42m digital single = 327 million

Rihanna: 33m pure albums sales + 1.2m other LP + 3.6m physical single + 257m digital single = 295 million

Mariah: 116m pure albums sales + 31.2m other LP + 37m physical single + 50m digital single = 234.2 million

Taylor: 56.5m pure albums sales + 10.3m other LP + 0.32m physical single + 162m digital single = 229.1 million

Beyonce: 37m pure albums sales + 6m other LP + 4m physical single + 164m digital single = 211 million

Britney: 69.5m pure albums sales + 11.4m other LP + 18.6m physical single + 83.3m digital single = 182.8 million

You question Guinness methodology and then cite a fan site with made up numbers. can't make these things up

I didn't "question" it? I just try to explain why Britney is not on the list? :deadbanana4: What's your point?

Or you can provide your version of made up number for me? I would like to use them

I don't purport myself to be a legitimate global sales source, beloved.

No Celine Dion in top 3? Even Whitney too?

I mean, come on! Madonna, Celine, Mariah, Whitney and Taylor and the best selling female artists ever when all things considered.

:suburban:

And that's not my problem sweet heart, cause there is not "legitimate global sales source" has the exact detailed of every artists sale data of every music format from 1980 to 2023, even the IFPI. There're all made up. At least CM's data can be lined up with the IFPI yearly Global Artist Chart and the Guinness ranking here most time, so I can't see the problem to use them to explain why Britney is not inside the top 5?

If they are indeed only counting pure sales and equating the value of an album and a single, then yes, this list seems legit.
