Popular Post byzantium Posted October 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 27, 2023 I don't think people will doubt the list. Rather they will question whether we should consider the sale of a single to be the same as a sale of an album when comparing the commercial success of various artists. 16
Devin Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 (edited) pretty accurate, disagree with the ranking. should be Madonna, Mariah, then Rih but i assume they including Rih single sales edit: wait Whitney should be here too? Edited October 27, 2023 by Devin 1
1989 Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Taylor’s only going to climb in that ranking, too
ImsoLOUD Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Rihanna still washing some of the other girls while watching Coco Melon with her kids 8
Cruel Summer Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Interesting! Have they posted their figures? I'm guessing it's all the albums-plus-singles method used for Madonna's 400m figure, but I honestly don't know what the others' would be off the top of my head, or any artists who didn't make the top five.
Elusive Chanteuse Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Celine is definitely there before Beyonce I would think. 1 6 5

On the original article, they had Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adele, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga making out the rest of the top ten. (I can’t remember the order). It seems as though they’ve removed it and just left the top five. Edited October 27, 2023 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto 1
The Music Industry Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 (edited) Well, that's "record sales", which is a questionable methodology where singles sales and album sales have the exact same worth. Using that methodology, someone like Chris Brown is a "better selling" artist than Adele, Barbra Streisand, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Britney Spears, Prince, Frank Sinatra, etc. Take that as you will Edited October 29, 2023 by The Music Industry 8 3 1

ninetales Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 No Celine Dion in top 3? Even Whitney too? I mean, come on! Madonna, Celine, Mariah, Whitney and Taylor and the best selling female artists ever when all things considered. 3 1

And that's not my problem sweet heart, cause there is not "legitimate global sales source" has the exact detailed of every artists sale data of every music format from 1980 to 2023, even the IFPI. There're all made up. At least CM's data can be lined up with the IFPI yearly Global Artist Chart and the Guinness ranking here most time, so I can't see the problem to use them to explain why Britney is not inside the top 5? Klein Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 If they are indeed only counting pure sales and equating the value of an album and a single, then yes, this list seems legit.
