In any case he should have got his **** kicked in. Giving a context to this kind of behavior it’s not ‘justifying’ the crime. What if an autistic man has a public breakdown and starts throwing around objects? Should we punch him too? The health system should prevent people with mental illness to go around alone, it’s their job to give them the meds and support they need. 1

Should we punch him too? We shouldn't but this isn't comparable because it was targeted and the harm done is much worse than a run of the mill meltdown. If an autistic man throws something dangerous and life altering specifically at a child on purpose then yes an extreme reaction would be justifiable. If this man isn't capable of taking care of himself(which is different from the experience of the vast, vast majority of people on the spectrum btw) then after the very justifiable kneejerk reaction to this that any sane parent would immediately have, once it's actually an established fact and not internet conjecture, his caretakers should be held responsible for damages. Regardless of any conditions this man in this video is a hazard to children and should not be around them point blank period. Better health care is an extremely important issue to me but there are situations in which it isn't the only answer and definitely shouldn't be the first thought for an uninformed observer.
