Sabrina Carpenter Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 the closest i got to learning a 3rd language is French because my degree required us to take 4 terms of it it’s extremely hard to learn, i’m not used to a language where most words have a gender

I intended to work there soon, so learning both would tremendously help me gain more friends there. I thought only 2.3% spoke Portuguese, Macau is beautiful though. Are you learning Mandarin or Cantonese? - English is my native language but I'm learning Mandarin as I'm very interested in Taiwan.
Anthinos Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 My native language is German and I also understand and speak (although not well) Croatian. I thought about learning Spanish or Swedish because I wanted to move to Spain or Sweden. I don't think I will ever move tho and I'm not sure if I should learn another language because language translators have become so good.

Yeah, Portuguese as a language is currently used by a small minority but they have a strong community there. Almost Every signage has Portuguese in it so you can't really escape it. Every year, they celebrate the Lusofonia Festival in which all Portuguese speaking migrants get together for a week of celebration. I have attended twice and it's honestly fun. I'm learning Cantonese as it's the predominant language in Macau. 1
Wolf Alice Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 I had 3 languages mandatory in school and then I had to swap one out for a 4th in high school which was again not optional

I'm actually interested in learning Cantonese as my bf is from Hong Kong. If you have any good recommendations, please let me know.
Dekkan Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Polish native, English 2nd and Spanish 3rd. I was learning German for 3 years in school but hated it, so when I started high school I decided to switch to Spanish and it was a great decision. I've always loved the language, I've loved the culture and now it's great whenever I'm in Spain - I may not be fluent but totally able to hold a conversation and not have to rely on English, which is not really helpful in Spain anyway.
Itsaliability Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Studied French for 9 years at school (was exellent, the teacher would always compliment my accent even in other classes) but it's been so long since I've had a conversation with someone, and I just know I can't for the life of me now. Learned Italian watching RaiUno, Italia1 etc Learned Spanish by watching REBELDE and a couple more of telenovelas. Got into English around the same time I started staning Taylor. This is the one I'm the best at. Got a 8.5 IELTS score without studying a single day in my life. And now reaching B1 level in Finnish language and I don't think I can sink in anymore even though im dying to learn Portuguese and either Japanese or Turkish.
CBC Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 things were translated into my native tongue and the closest was spanish so...
