PoisonedIvy Posted October 7, 2023 Posted October 7, 2023 Yea I live in a big city and I’m biracial so I don’t have this “NEED” to connect with people of my race only because I’m more than one race, so I’ve always meshed well with black people, Latin people, and white people. I will say I don’t find myself in Asian spaces a lot, not for lack of trying necessarily but I think they are the smallest proportion of my city’s population so it’s just the nature of the beast. I did have a few Asian American friends throughout school and even in a few jobs though; Vietnamese, Laotian, etc. Anyway outside of race I also have a great balance of straight friends versus queer friends, I grew up with mostly straight friends and they’ve stuck with me all these years. Now political and economic background I can’t say there’s a HUGE range but I have met a handful of people I get along with regardless of the differences in those kinds of upbringing so I know it’s possible
byzantium Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 (edited) Hmm. I guess I do. I don’t really obsess about someone race. I meet people, if we like to be around each other, we become friends. But going through my phone about 5/9 of my most common contacts/friends are not the same race as me. Edited October 8, 2023 by byzantium
Alldeezy Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 I don't have friends anymore lol but back when I did they were all emos, goths, alt, metalheads but sadly there were no different races. only in high school back in 2005 - 2009! we had a few Asians (my best friend was) but sadly I lost contact with them after school. they went to uni and well me
kandicha Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Yes, living in the U.S. but originally from another country, I do have a lot of friends who are from the same country as me and it's nice to have them to feel in touch with home, but I also have a lot of diverse friends from school/work.
Robert Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 I can't speak for North American or Continental Europe but in the UK/Australia, I've had a very diverse group of friends from different ethnic backgrounds/from different countries. This was living in the city though, for people living in suburban/rural areas it tends to be less diverse and even in small towns with high amounts of minorities, it can be quite segregated (particularly focusing on northern towns in England here).
Theshigo Washidu Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 No tbh. I've using Bumble BFF tho to try and expand my circle a bit.
DamianSolo Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 I don't necessarily have a group of friends, but I'm friends with people of various backgrounds and ethnicities. I've always been the type of person who enjoys contrasts. I tend to shy away from anything that's monolithic, as I find it boring and uninteresting. I need diversity in all areas of my life, I get bored way too easily otherwise. I like being exposed to and understanding the various ways of life across ethnicities and cultures. And I like being around those with a similar mindset. If I ever have children, they will be the same way.
Tropez Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Yes, I have a friends racial quota. I go by the racial percentage in my area and make sure my friend groups align. This is also helpful to post on social media. So I can brag about how diverse my friends are.
