So much for him being over. He's doing everyone a favor by putting out garbage.

Considering it seems like GP at large is hailing this as his worst album to date, I consider this impressive as hell numbers.

I will say he maintains a very impressive amount of success considering how horrible his releases have been consecutively

Looks like Taylor will have the top 2 biggest debuts of 2023

I think it will drop to 380k-ish :giraffe:

First of all his last album was Honestly, Nevermind which opened with 204,000 copies. So this is a major increase. Idk what you mean by proper.

Also Evermore opened with 500,000 less than Folklore. Is Taylor over / a bomb?

No but then she sold 1.5 million opening with her followed up studio album

Huge numbers for Drake  :clap3:

I don't know how he can have the 23 first songs on AM, more than 100M first day on Spotify after the underwhelming lead single and his own fans not loving his last materials too much and people still think he's done.

OT : Nice numbers.

I mean, who else is pulling numbers like this 14+ years into their career besides Taylor (on a much higher scale obviously) and Beyoncé? :michael:

I don't know if you're kidding or you really have no idea about the music market, but here are some examples of rappers

Eminem relased the Marshal Mathers LP II (792K first week in a music market much more deteriorated than the current one) 14 years into his mainstream carrer and Kamikaze (434K first week) 19 years into his carrer

Lil Wayne relased Tha Carter V 19 years into his carrer (480k first week)

Jay z relased the Bluprint 3 14 years into his carrer (476K first week)13 years into his carrer and Magna Carta Holy Grail (528K first week in a music market much more deteriorated than the current one)17 years into his carrer

Kanye West relase Donda 17 years into his carrer (309K first week -5 days -)

All of these figures (minus Donda) are at least 5 years old. We‘re in a different sales/units climate, 450k in 2023 is like 800k in 2013 :skull: outside of Taylor (and Drake to a lesser degree), absolutely nobody is doing it.

Bigger than I expected. Annoying.

Hopefully it will fade very fast

In 2013 the best-selling album was Justin Timberlake's the 20/20 experience with 2.4M, in fact only 13 albums surpassed 1 million copies.
As of October 6, 2023 the best selling album has 4.6M copies and there are 14 albums with more than 1M copies.

If you think Drake 13 years into his career is bigger than Eminem or Jay Z is up to you, I really don't think so.

As a fun fact Eminem's album released in November 2013 ended up being #2 in US and #2 worldwide, I guess Drake will have no problem beating those numbers since only he and Taylor are able to reach numbers like that, the competition will simply be 1989

Those are good numbers, no matter how you slice it. A better angle of "attack" would be the 2nd week drop.

The album might do less than 400K though if the streams keep dropping

I think some rappers also proved incredible longevity (Lil Wayne, Em, Jay) and I think pure-sales-driven charts were more competitive tbh but I do agree that Drake's longevity deserves to be applauded. 400k is great.

I don't think anyone here has doubted Drake's longevity (it would be absurd), what I have doubted is that he is the first and only one (besides taylor), which is what the initial message implied.
