airplane Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 (edited) The same album that debuted at #27 with 460 pure sales is nearing 7M units in the US alone. Potentially diamond certified by 2027. What went right? Edited October 3, 2023 by airplane 2 1
qurl Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 SOLD ? yes actually ! but it’s a fabulous album so that’s very deserved i’d like to know if what they meant is that it was streamed to the point of 500k + certifications but regardless , Rihanna obviously has a lasting legacy and will be famous for f*cking EVER

qurl Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Just now, airplane said: I mean 500K units sold which includes equivalent streaming units+ physicals+ digitals etc i personally think selling 500k copies of something is different than it being streamed to the point of 500k of certifications , and the money is certainly cut a lot differently but, regardless of that , she added a whole nother gold certification to an album that already has monster streaming numbers and she did it 7 years after it’s release. that is very, very impressive to me 1
qurl Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 cuz i mean i would venture to say 90% of that 500k (if not more) is basically all from streaming, idk it doesn’t give any data for the make up of it

There is an endless selection of streaming music. 500k in streaming from an album released 7 years ago is amazing. 2
flashfox Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Not really, it's a timeless smash album, still on repeat after so many years. 1

Erreur2 La Nature Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 The word "sold" is laughable indeed and that's not a Rihanna shade by any mean. I am not surprised though. It's by far her most loved and acclaimed album. It's her last one and she performed at the SB, it completely makes sense.

It was much harder for big albums to continually chart/make it to YEC for multiple years back in the physical era/digital now compared to the streaming era. This doesn't take anything away from ANTI's impressive longevity, though.

Albums used to sell over 5 million copies in one year in the US alone.
BeenThereDoneThat Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Congratulations Rihanna. ANTI is an amazing album.

Maroonx Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Incredible, I still can't believe this is her biggest album. Rihi's poweeee is insane. If only she released a new album :(
