Gender study finds 90% of humans are biased against women

A new UN report has found almost 90% of men and women hold some sort of bias against females.

The "Gender Social Norms" index analysed biases in areas such as politics and education in 75 countries.

Globally, close to 50% of men said they had more right to a job than women. Almost a third of respondents thought it was acceptable for men to hit their partners. There are no countries in the world with gender equality, the study found.

Zimbabwe had the highest amount of bias with only 0.27% of people reporting no gender bias at all. At the other end of the scale was Andorra where 72% of people reported no bias.

In Zimbabwe, 96% of people expressed a bias against women's physical integrity - a measure covering support for violence against women and opposition to reproductive rights. In the Philippines, 91% of people held views that were detrimental to women's physical integrity. Reform and repression go hand in hand in Saudi Arabia

Not surprising unfortunately. I expect this also applies to racism and the like.

It reminds me of this programme I saw once where a woman was put into an MRI machine and shown pictures of different people and her fear increased when she was shown black men vs white men. She was really horrified when they gave her the results.

This is why unconscious bias training is so important. You can be as progressive as you like but deep down we all have inherent biases based on the information we've been fed our whole lives. It's not necessarily an issue as long as you're aware of them and consciously make an effort to work against them. We all have prejudices, it's how you choose to act on those prejudices which is important.

Having said all that, some of the specific questions and responses in this study are pretty disappointing :gaycat6:

Well okay but does finding a woman anything other than absolutely perfect automatically make you misogynistic?

Which is ironic considering we all come from a woman, and wouldn’t be here without them but alas :katie:

Nope and that’s not the point of the study at all. It’s relative - how the world perceives man vs woman

That’s one of the roots of the bias. Because we come from women, women are then seen as domestic, soft, and weak. That then goes right into the biases mentioned in the article. Why do think so many women are delaying or not having children at all? When a woman has children that stops her career growth, she isn’t taken as seriously at work, and is seen as a burden.

These biases against women are global. No matter how socially advanced a country is, women still get the short end of the stick.

*pretends to be shocked* We don't need to look further, we are in ATRL.

We still have a long way to go. Even "progressive" ATRL still treats women with massive double standards and misogyny.

Well, a lot of people hate this world and humanity so it makes sense they’d hate the creators

This is absolutely true and its why this entire MENINIST community is so cringe and FAKE. Calling men victims is disguising in the face of all the discrimination and bias women face especially in male dominated work spaces. :coffee2:

This has nothing to do with being annoying. It has to do with the mindset that women are less than capable or worth less than men which they ARENT.

The way ATRL used to have an unironic meninist community in like 2016. :deadbanana4:
