artist stats Charlie Puths new single bombed. Why?

Charlie released the first single, Lipstick, on his upcoming 4th studio album last month and it has not even reached 10 M streams yet. I believe Light Switch his previous lead did that in 4 days. What went wrong for the former hitmaker?

His sound has gotten tired. The new songs (even the majority of his prior album) lack catchy melodies, lack inspiration, same boring production style…etc

ilh but his sound has gotten repetitive. and bubble gum generic pop sound just doesn’t really work anymore. I know he said he’s going more r&b with his new sound but it still feels v poppy and it’s just boring atp.

Well for starters, the nonexistent promo he and his team having been using for the last few years sucks. Tiktok vids can only do so much.

He based all of his social media promo on thirst traps, then debuted a committed relationship  Also, no BTS Jung Kook collab.

Charlie's songs are still cute and catchy but there's "something" missing from his brand these days.

The interesting thing is, so many of his unreleased songs leaked in the past month. Many of them are good. Like, in my eyes could be a HIT hit if he finished it. I Don't Love You Anymore too. And then he releases a not so strong song like Lipstick as the actual single. Just why?
