Aciid Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 I sang a song for our entry but Noah said it didn't go with the theme. I thought I did a good job, very alike. I dedicate it to Lola.

Moonchild Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 (edited) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Episode 9 - Femme Queen Judges' Critiques Moonchild said... Quote Lola: The Ever After High avatar sets were a bit confusing because I’ve never really associated that with your drag, but maybe I missed it before. I like the idea of telling a story with your lip sync, but I think yours could’ve been streamlined a bit more. I think cutting one of the songs and providing more humor throughout the entry and in the narration would’ve made it flow better. “Popular” stuck out the most because it’s necessary for your narrative but it’s not a song I associate with the style you’ve shown us so far. You chose a good concept for your runway, and Disney is very much part of your house. I would’ve liked to see more differences besides a palette swap, but that’s a minor complaint. Melanoma: You probably had the hardest time coming into this challenge, since you didn’t have enough time to establish a brand before. I didn’t expect anything like this from you, but I’ll just assume this is what you wanted to bring all along. Your avatar/signature makeover is my favorite of the night. I appreciate the drama of your performance. “Heads Will Roll” is a slay and you did it justice. I’m not entirely sure how a coffin looks like it’s breathing, but the poetry spoken word intro was cool, too. My main criticism is there wasn’t any part of your entry that showed Necrosis’ personal identity at all. Her personality doesn’t come through anywhere and it doesn’t help that both pairs of outfits are so alike. I’m looking for sisters, not conjoined twins. That said, your performance was good and your outfits work, so you did well this week. Gladys: I think you did the best job of defining and distinguishing your house this week. I like the backstories, and I think Edith is the most individual sister of the makeovers. You have one of the simpler performances this week, but I don’t mind since it’s unique and true to your brand. Your runways are colorful and fashionable, so no complaints there. Faye: I think this entry needed more focus. You seemed to hone in on the double meaning of your name and “something different, every time” rather than what inspires you and your drag. The story for your performance is out of left field from what we’ve seen from you, but that makes it feel disconnected for me. I appreciate that you tried to do something different, though. I’m sorry for what you’re going through, and I hope it improves. The entry would have been better if you focused on what makes your drag unique, where you draw influence from, etc. I did appreciate the looks you brought this week; they were some of my favorites this week. And your avatar/signature set was pretty spot-on. Colleen: This was pretty basic. A rags-to-riches story is already cliché, and intentionally becoming generic within the performance doesn’t help the quality of your entry. I think some pictures of your performance outfits would have helped, because I wasn’t getting the visual aspect from “big hair and big dresses.” I liked the La Roux part, but I was confused why Knihdee wore Carbön’s old Envy outfit when the point of the makeover is that Knihdee is a new queen in your house. I wanted to see what distinguished your brand this week, and that didn’t happen in the performance. Your runways are cute. I appreciate that you gave Knihdee some individuality here, but if you took away the bow, I wouldn’t be able to connect the two oufits. Noah: You played to your strengths well here. I love that you included that iconic monologue and “Fly Me to the Moon is such a slay. I liked attention to detail in the remix, too, adding words from the monologue into the song. I laughed a lot at this entry and you did a great job of giving Foula her own sense of identity. Your runway gets the job done. I like how you styled it with the origami makeup and headpieces. Citrus said... Quote Colleen Your performance was a bit of a dud. It was fine but, after seeing what you did in the other lip sync challenges, this was...boring? I'm really surprised by how little personality there is in this. The looks are cute, but there just kinda there. I give you props for having the worst judge to work with, but if this is what you did with minimal input from her, then I wish she had been more involved to change your mind.Lola The racial humor wasn't horribly offensive, but it just felt like a distraction. I'm not one to harp on comedy for being too harsh, but this felt edgy for the sake of being edgy. It wasn't quite Wilhelmina in the Fruit Roast - more Lisa Lampanelli repeating jokes. I like the performance track, it was a cute mix as yours always are. The looks are serviceable if not terribly exciting.Noah I'm actually impressed at how well this turned out given you were on vacation. Melanoma wishes. The performance is delightfully quirky and very on brand, tho the looks are repeats. Af least your looks are better and slightly more personally styled than the others. Good job not making Aciid ugly.Melanoma I LOVE the name Necrosis, that's so so cute and very fitting for your house. I think you suffered from not being in the competition longer because this just felt like Chanel turned to the extreme rather than your specific personality. The looks were repeats and not as good as Noah's version. Not bad but slightly underwhelming.Faye Hi bby. I had a decent time working with you this week, though honestly I felt a tad underutilized. You were hyper focused on the idea you had coming in and there wasn't really any collaboration in regards to concept, which is why I think some other judges had issues with the story because it felt like a solo entry. I think the end product is good and the fashion is stellar (hihi), so it did turn out well in the end.Gladys Hi baby. I'm doing shorter comments so let me just say: I had you pegged as a filler queen for a while, Joslyn Fox at best. Thanks for proving me wrong the last few weeks.
