Citrus Posted July 16, 2017 Author Posted July 16, 2017 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Episode 5 - Snatch Game Judges' Critiques Moonchild said... Quote Melanoma: Jesus had a lot of potential, but you didn’t really live up to it. The Bible verses were really cute for some answers (Chanel and jpow specifically), but you limited yourself by only sticking to that. You could’ve referenced the other cast members (I was expecting a Whitney joke somewhere in there tbh). You could’ve gotten drunk on wine. You could’ve died and resurrected yourself for an answer. It ultimately wasn’t funny enough and it felt more like a nun walked onto the set than a Snatch Game. Your runway was a cute idea, but it missed the point of the runway for me. It felt like the safest route, actually, instead of stepping on the most toes. It wasn’t cohesive by design and it wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, either. Gladys: I was pleasantly surprised by this. Beyoncé is a difficult Snatch Game because of her public image and the way she presents herself. We don’t really know her, so it’s hard to exaggerate her. But I think you made it funny enough. I wasn’t really convinced on it being Beyoncé herself, but I was entertained. The prerecorded one-on-one Snatch Game was a kii and you had good moments with the Elton John joke and her water breaking. Your Snatch Game costume was a kii, too. It wasn’t the best of the week, but you did a good job. I love your runway, on the other hand. A lot of East Asian runways in this game feel unfocused or generic, but you really honed in on the hyper colorful Harajuku and lolita angle. I love pretty much everything about this look. Whøre: Whew, girl. Let’s start with the positives. Some of the discography references were fun, and I laughed at the No World Without You answer. The little intro about Whøre making herself speak with a perfect accent was cute, too. That’s about it. I think you know where you went wrong, so I won’t go into too much detail, but it’s a one-note joke that you don’t really develop. Plus, the humor hinges on Ru not knowing Kylie, which would never actually happen. I usually love your entries, so I’m hoping you can return to form next week. Your runway, on the other hand. Whew, girl. This is crude. This is offensive. This is hilarious. The Sasha picture and you using Kylie’s CGYOMH look make it even funnier. I think you nailed what the theme was asking for. Stone: This wasn’t good tbh. Taylor been done before in ADR, and you didn’t come up with much original or funny material. The white supremacist and sue-happy angle has been done before, and it wasn’t convincing here. Your small town answer was amusing, and I would’ve liked to see more answers like that. It was exaggerated, obviously, but it felt more like Taylor than a meme. Kii at you using so many detail shots to distract from the fact that this is essentially one picture. I don’t have a problem with that, tho! My main criticism is I don’t think Christianity counts as appropriation, but this is a good look. Nothing to clock about the look itself. Alena: I screamed at the robot voice. You did a really good job here and with a celebrity I wouldn’t expect for Snatch Game. You did a good job with the answers, and I like how you included some of her past comments and the horrendous freestyle. Good job this week. Now, there is no way in hell gamer culture counts as appropriation. The outfit isn’t particularly cohesive, either. This feels more like an OC I’d see at an anime convention than a drag look. That said, stan for Gravity Rush. Lola: I haven’t seen any of this girl’s videos, but you gave me a sense of who she is and that’s what matters! Your answers were diverse enough that it didn’t feel like the same joke over and over. And the bigass rant at the end was hilarious. I screamed at the thought of you giving a three-minute monologue on camera and the producers not cutting it because it was comedy gold. You did a good job this week, sis! I really like the pre-reveal part of your look. It gives me real-life version of Mulan but dragged up and enough of a difference that it feels like a Lola original. I wasn’t sold on your reveal. You go from Disney to Mortal Kombat, which felt odd. I get wanting to convey the warrior part of Mulan, but I don’t think it worked as a single runway. Colleen: This just wasn’t funny to me. I watched a Miranda Sings video and I think your impression was accurate, but it was uncomfortable to read. It seems like Miranda’s humor is based a lot on visuals and audio, and it didn’t translate well to text. I think your character dragged you down here, because I can see the effort you put in to imitate her. Your runway is middle of the pack. You went a route the other queens didn’t, so props for that, at least. But I didn't think this was particularly inventive. Besides the make-up, it felt like a traditional Indian outfit. It wasn't drag enough for me. Faye: This was so accurate. The posthumous angle (my impact as Joan) actually made me kinda sad because this felt like a Whitney interview. A lot of it felt like stuff Whitney herself would say, and the stuff that was exaggerated was funny enough to make it entertaining. Her touting her sales numbers, her leaving the Bibles for the other girls, “I don’t think about it.” I questioned club kid culture as appropriation, but it works since you’re from overseas n. This is a look! I was gagged by the McQueen gown with that makeup and those nails. Love it. Noah: This whole thing was a kii. I don’t know the Gentle Whispering ASMR so I don’t know if you were them specifically, but I was sold on the persona you crafted. Your video was consistently funny and I laughed at the toilet paper and you making out with the webcam. It do take nerve. Your runway has some interesting ideas going on but it doesn’t feel fully realized. The eye makeup/dress, the headpiece, and the lips/shoes feel like they’re telling different stories. I like the color palette you have going on and certain elements of this, though. Subomie said... Quote MelaNOma - ooh gurl, you stayed in character throughout but none of it was particularly funny. I appreciate the concept but you could've gone so much further with it. Really just like devolve into some utterly crazy funny made up proverbs and gospels that wouldn't have a place in any bible; christian, satanic or Cher-orism. Nothing here was outrageous, and you picked a pretty scandalous character so poor move. The look is entirely too much too, you should've stopped while you were ahead. One culture would do, two could be interesting... this was overkill. Gladys - Ok, it was in-character. Mostly. It was like fine and all. But I feel like I heard some of this material before. I mean one of your answers is quoted almost directly verbatim from a Got2BReal episode. At least you have good taste then. Beyoncé isn't a funny person so if you pick her... either play it up or exaggerate about her. But really just don't pick her. Props for making a Snatch Game look too tho. I felt it reminded me of my own entry in many ways, and that makes you like... intelligent. Which doesn't surprise me, but I do think you made a poor character choice and never were able to elevate it further as a result. I appreciate the idea of the runway but I hate the shoes. It's decent, at least better than Nellie's attempts. Wh*re - I really did find this funny, but how much of it was from the interactions you presented rather than just the character choice? It relies too much on knowing the character, and I appreciate that it was part of the joke that people wouldn't know the references but then it defeats the purpose I find so that people who don't know feel that they should be laughing but they aren't. I've never been a fan of just naming an artists works as the joke alone but you're a smart queen and you elevated it above what a lesser queen could do, but it was still not great. I did giggle a tad though so it was one of the better entries for that much. Perfect job on the runway however, keep up the good work. Stone - Let's start with the good. Lovely runway. Very budget Aciid Rose. The entry was... well, I can see that you tried. Like the wheels were clearly turning but maybe not in the right direction. I know that you are a very funny person, but just from this entry I wouldn't get that. I appreciate the attempted characterization. Some of the jokes landed, others fell flat. You didn't try to reinvent the wheel or anything and for that you ended up with a solid C. You didn't commit any awful sins but you won't be winning any awards. I wish you did more. The more nuanced and developed answers are examples of your vast potential, but some of the answers were just too throwaway and basic, much like your character for Snatch Game. Now is the time to turn it up. Alena - I'm biased cus the Iggy freestyle video makes me scream everytime. The video entry was a risky decision. I don't know if it necessarily paid off cus I didn't feel it elevated the entry at all. Maybe with a different voice option it might've. Something robotic enough to sound like Iggy rapping. Potential. That's what I saw here. The racially tone deaf answers were great, but so many of the others just felt random. Like not only is this not funny, but what it got to do with Iggy? The intro and outro videos were cute but outstayed a welcome a bit. I know you tried with this entry but it needed to be tighter. The runway is sloppy mishmash however. Nina Williams teas, I'm disappointed. The assets don't blend together at all. Lola - I'm so happy you achieved your long standing dream of becoming white trash You did the best you could for a one-note, single joke character. You really milked it. And milked it again. And dried the joke completely. Like, you had to cus the material was lacking with Angela. But you chose her so that's on you boo. For the standards of this week, and this challenge in general cus it's always terrible, you were up there. But I know you and know you can do so much better. Still, good job all things considered. Some people can't even make a one-note character funny one time. The runway is a lot of nice pieces put together but it's a tad confusing darling. I have to dock points for using a reveal however. Colleen - I don't like Miranda Sings. That's a very subjective thing, but this happens every Snatch Game with one character or another. Like how can I judge this entry fairly when I know it won't make me laugh at all. You stayed in character. I don't know if it's totally accurate but it seemed to be to me. I think effort was put into it so I appreciate that. The jokes seemed like they might be something Miranda would say, and though that doesn't make me laugh but it may affect some others? Nothing you said was hilarious but your like... devotion to character and monologues made me smile a bit. Which is more than any Miranda video made me do. The runway is interesting. I like the idea of blueface, but the tones in that image are a bit unsettling. Think more Raja Season 5 reunion. It's nothing amazing but it works. I was going to criticize over-accessorising here but I think it also fits this particular culture. Is that racist of me? It's acceptable, if uninspired. Faye Shull - Lovely. Noah - 8 minutes? This video better change my outlook on life, cure my scoliosis and bring back my fave's career if it's 8 minutes. As if 4 seasons of this haven't braced me to watch the worst videos I've ever seen. Yours was definitely in the upper echelon of ADR video entries, backhanded compliment intended. You're very special. Like real special. You're super smart too. Like I said that to a lot of bitches, but you definitely are the brainy queen. Your ability to keep in character and stand out is valuable. You know when to be weird and when to just have an ordinary punchline or when to leave the audience hanging, but I think dumbing it down for this week might've gotten a few more laughs. Regardless, good work and pretty runway. I love classic art prints like that put onto a dress, but only when done well. Hug said... Quote Melanoma/Jesus - Initially, I was really excited for your choice - it was the most daring choice for a Snatch Game I’ve ever seen! However, you took it and slept with it...the whole thing felt like deep down, you really wanted to be Jesus, rather than a played up caricature of him. The Bible quotes were funny...once, twice even when you posted them in the thread, but that was the glue sticking your entry together, it seems, and it’s not a good adhesive. You could have very well referenced other cast members (There’s a joke in there with Whitney Houston and Kylie Minogue if you look for it!), referenced other things Jesus was known for (walking on water, turning water to wine, healing the sick (maybe even say something like “I’m a miracle worker and even I couldn’t cure [insert cast member]”) etc. etc. but all we got were some uninteresting Bible verses that vaguely fit as responses. Your cultural appropriation look was...well, going through the list and knocking all the common cultures to appropriate sounds interesting in concept, but it clashes with each other rather than compliments it, I think. The idea is definitely there, though! Gladys Lux Maure/Beyoncé - Beyoncé is a risky one to choose, because the only personality we get out of her is what she chooses to show us. It’s hard to play up on what “Beyoncé” is when we don’t really know. Like many people who choose pop stars, you spend your time referencing that pop star, and a majority of the time, they come off as forced and anti-humorous. However, there were good moments and bad moments. Your answer for the Phresh Cherry question, for instance, was fairly clever, I think! I also loved some of the more absurd moments, like Beyoncé having Red Lobster and hot sauce literally in her bag, and her (faking?) water breaking just so she could leave the set. Idk how she pulled that one off! (Also, the single ladies look with her being 15 months pregnant and the giraffe slippers :toofunny2:) Now, your runway this week - it’s pretty kawaii! I think people instantly think of kimonos when they think Japanese. It’s pretty easy to do and many people find them beautiful, so it seems like an obvious choice. I liked your take on it, though! It’s really colorful and a bit all over the place, but that’s what’s great about it. ***** Yentl/Kylie Minogue - Oh boy...RuPaul would know who Kylie Minogue is. Right off the bat we have a big problem. This joke would’ve worked a lot better if you were actually playing Kylie Jenner and you made a joke about trademarking the name Kylie or something. However, it just falls flat because of how unbelievable the idea of RuPaul knowing Kylie Jenner over Kylie Minogue is. The fact that your whole entry revolves around this idea just brings it down. Also, the self-referential humor may have been funny if it was actually believable that RuPaul wouldn’t know who Kylie Minogue is, but instead it’s almost enough to make me roll my eyes. I will be honest and say that I don’t know what Kylie’s personality is, but something tells me she would be much more professional than you made her out to be, and you’re not even playing up on a quality Kylie has. You could’ve really done anyone and just replaced the self-referencing jokes a bit and it’d be the same. A very static, one-note entry that really missed the mark. Your runway, however, girl...definitely the most offensive of the bunch. It’s such a weird concept, but I enjoyed it! Definitely one of the better looks this week! Stone/Taylor Swift - Well, Taylor is a boring choice, but making her out to be a white supremacist / snake / person who will sue someone at the drop of a hat made it more interesting. I wouldn’t say any of the jokes fully landed for me, but none really bombed hard, neither. (Thank you for not referencing song titles for most of your entry!) A fairly middle-of-the-road entry. Now your look this week is pretty good! Love the idea behind it. I don’t think “religious woman” is a culture, but **** it a lot of these looks are ugly anyway so work. Alena Loves/Iggy Azalea - Okay, after realizing you had subtitles in the description of the video, the entry became a bit funnier. (Although just clicking closed caption was funnier) The subtle racism (and sometimes not so subtle :toofunny2:) I think my favorite part was the one about white toothpaste I don’t know how much of a culture “gamer” is, but it’s one of the more interesting takes on this runway, for sure! The playstation nails are cute, although I think it would’ve worked better if all your characters were PS exclusive characters. That’s minor, I suppose. Lola Cabezas/Az4Angela - Ahh okay I actually loved this. It really captured the essence of the rant videos she makes (particularly her viral one!) while having lots of jokes for the people involved in the game as well, so you wouldn’t really need to know the source of your character, and I think that’s a big thing. You should be funny even if someone isn’t really familiar with the character, and I think you pulled that off! Your whole rant at the end As for your look, that metalic body piece is slaying me. The transformation of looks is very fitting for your mulan inspiration and it’s actually appropriating a culture. Way to stay on theme! Colleen/Miranda Sings - Another interesting choice...but Miranda Sings is very much a character whose humor comes from a mix of visuals and audio, and all we have are some gifs. Honestly, a bad Miranda Sings impression that was done via voice would’ve been much funnier than a spot-on text-based impression. What’s confusing to me is that you made a joke referring to masturbation, but then call someone else “prn”? I suppose the irony in there is that she makes herself sound like “prn” unintentionally, but seeing how unnatural the masturbation joke sounds, that didn’t really land for me. The parts where she calls people “prn” is kinda funny, though. The milk coming out of the private parts one is even more unnatural sounding Your look was...appropriate for the runway, but it’s a tad boring? Nothing too over-the-top here, just typical. Not bad or anything, though. Faye Shull/Whitney Houston - Out of all the impressions, I found this one to be the most accurate. Not necessarily the funniest, but truthfully many of these entries weren’t even funny so you deserve some credit for doing something right. I did find the random bringing up of receipts to be funny, at least. Your runway was an interesting choice…particularly because I don’t think it’s a culture that can be appropriated. Anyway, it’s not too overdrawn...maybe a bit underdrawn, even. It’s a cohesive look, at the very least. Noah Fence/Gentle Whispering ASMR - Okay, so I do find your entry to have humorous moments. I’d like to point that out before I say anything else. The thing about your entry is that it doesn’t really matter which ASMR person you chose because it doesn’t really capture them specifically. It felt more like a very general ASMR parody, and you just snatched a whole genre of video. I can’t really say you did a bad job of snatching Gentle Whispering ASMR, but I just don’t think they have enough unique characteristics to be easily pointed out when compared to a vast majority of other ASMR channels. Now, for the runway. It’s cute. I don’t have any complaints, but it’s not really gag-worthy, neither. Citrus said... Quote Melanoma as Jesus Christ I’m glad that the verses didn’t continue through every answer, but, honestly, we only needed like 2 at most to get the point. They’re clunky lines so it’s more difficult to get a laugh out of them. Your false idol answer about Phresh was probably my favorite, or maybe the Dame Rose one. This all just feels a little…safe. There’s nothing here aside from a relatively stuffy Bible school lesson. You missed a great opportunity to clarify Jesus’ position on the gays. He could’ve made a comment about what beautiful women these are, and then, when told they’re all men, condemned the whole cast to hell. You could’ve been the hippie Jesus that smokes a bong and says the Bible ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. What I’m saying is, you took a really interesting and compelling character, but you chose the most traditional route to take it. As for your look, I like the concept behind it, throwing all the cultures together. And the pieces somewhat work together aside from the kimono. You needed something less heavy covering the body here, because you look like a tchotchke (not violet). A kimono showing skin or even no top (National Geographic tiddy realness) would’ve helped elongate the body, which is what the neck and headpiece are already trying to do. Gladys as Beyonce The Elton John read was my first actual laugh moment, slay a bit Gladys. I’m not a Bey stan so maybe I don’t see it, but I don’t usually think of her as fun and engaging in interviews, but more reserved. However, as the snatch went on, I got a feel for your character of Bey and it was coherent and delivered good moments so, whether accurate or not, I’m okay with it. I also love “Beyonce! I thought you were vegan!” It’s just so wholesome and fun to read. Sklfjslkfsjf fifty leven copies. Really, Gladys, you did a great job at Snatch Game, and I’m so glad to see you deliver some of the comedy we’ve been expecting since your iconic vajeen line. I love the white dragged up pregnant Beyonce. Your look is similarly colorful and detailed like your summer ball, and I like all the elements here. I agree that the hair could’ve been bigger, but, generally, I think this was a good look, as well. Wh&re Yentel as Kylie Minogure Whew, that snatch game was rough. When you choose to pick a regular-ish celebrity and take them to a weird place, it really has to land. Here, though, it doesn’t. I don’t have much to say because the entry is literally the same joke interspersed with song titles, and it just isn’t funny beyond the first moment or so. It gives a Kenya Michaels level of crazed. That being said, you easily have the best runway look this week, no criticisms and I love it. Toot. Stone as Taylor Swift Your Taylor snatch was similar to Wh5re’s in that you both picked a gag and ran with it the whole time, to somewhat middling effects. Because Taylor tries to hard to be likable, I think this entry would’ve packed more of a punch with those racist/freaky moments coming out on accident or subtly slipped in as opposed to the kinda over the top version here. Also, where was you implicitly threatening to kill Katy Perry? Like a lot of people, you have a decent gag but it’s not really delivered in the best way. It needs some nuance. For example, having Taylor wave to a sick fan for Make a Wish on TV rather than visit and her arm stays in the Nazi salute, something a little less in your face. Your look, though, is gorgeous and I love all of it. Looking like a walking cathedral, whew. Alena Loves as Iggy Azalea Iggy is a good pick, and I think you did a good job of incorporating the racial stuff without it being so overt and in your face in every question that it feels misplaced. It was cute to have the videos but honestly the performances were the only good parts of those, the computer read text was difficult to hear though you were smart to provide the text. Good answers, good concept, really good all around. Maybe not as many laughs as some other girls, but far more consistent than them. Your look requires some extensive explanation, which is always a warning sign to me. That being said, the pieces are cute together so that it helps keep this from feeling like straight up cosplay. Not your best look becuase it is a bit basic, but I applaud going a more obscure route. Lola Cabezas as Az4Angela Dsjflsfs “I’ve been waiting here for about fifteen minutes waiting to tell my story” is great. I’m always worried when people choose characters that are only known for one thing, but you mostly avoid that pitfall here because I don’t think you need to have watched the video to get all of her ticks and quirks. The story tangent about last week is gold, and I love how you integrated it into her storytelling method. I really enjoyed this, I was laughing the whole way. Your look is complicated and I wasn’t sure what parts went where, but it’s probably the best of the Asian inspired ones. Great job this week. Colleen as Miranda Sings I don’t know if this is good or not because I’ve literally never seen one of her videos. Okay, back. Watched a couple. She’s not my cup of tea when it comes to humor, so you definitely did her justice. You had some good moments, I especially liked the wedgie joke and the repeated siners and calling people prn. You captured her energy, even if I don’t quite understand the appeal of that, so good job there. I’m surprised more people didn’t go with a Hindu goddess look, but hey, it’s not unoriginal if you’re the only one! It’s a really good look, and I especially like the makeup. Faye Shull as Whitney Houston You missed a great dark moment with that shower answer, because if she’d taken a shower and not a bath she’d still be here. Smh. That aside, this was a great impersonation of Whitney that I really enjoyed. You captured her energy and vibrancy with a lot of the answers, especially her reply on the skank one. I think some of the parts where I didn’t laugh as much were probably because she’s so outlandish that normal answers seemed pretty subdued and blasé, though you mostly avoided that. Would’ve lovwd to see the ground open up at the end and she gets dragged back to hell while claiming she’s good, just taking a back route to heaven. That would’ve slayed. Overall, this is a spot on impression that entertainted. I love the look, too. Toot. Noah Fence as Gentle Whispering ASMR First off, use chapstick bitch. Second off, I was lowkey convinced you were going to flop with this choice but you proved me wrong. A transcript would’ve been great because I needed headphones at high volume to hear some of your ****, whispering queen. This was a niche choice but, even though I don’t know the Youtuber, I was still able to go along with the jokes. You making out with the camera was nice but was hoping for a lipstick stain or saliva smudge that just obscured the rest of the video. Great, great snatch. Your runway is in the same Christian couture category as Stone’s, but not quite as fashionable. It’s not a bad look, it just doesn’t measure up to hers. That being said, still a solid toot. I like the frosty eye mask makeup a lot, and I want that bodice Spoiler @talent @PhreshDiamond @DripDrip @Kylie Jenner @True Skarlet @Alena @Rhisiart @Lémur @Buddy! @EJQL8
