thetea Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 i stopped watching youtube videos so much because of how incessant the ads are. i refuse to pay for youtube premium because of how much they keep shoving it in my face as well as the fact that i can't even watch 1080p videos without a youtube premium subscription.

sweetblindness Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 I literally despise the YouTube app. The ads are so obnoxious, too!
Taylena Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Get a VPN (a free one will do for this one time) and connect to the country of Turkey. Go to the subscribe to premium page and Youtube will present you with prices from Turkey - a premium subscription in Turkey is 29.99 Turkish Lira which is barely over 1 US Dollar or 1 Euro. That's it, you get Youtube premium for that low price and you don't need to do anything else. Some cards might not work tho, just get something like Revolut and you shouldn't have a problem to pay with that. 1

Into The Void Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 The ads are ridiculous and its 2-3 for a 2 min video and now if a video is like 10 minutes there's ads between the video it needs to stop
SapphireSky Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 If you have a android search YouTube revanced
glitch Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Now youtube is rolling out an adblock detector on desktop too. I got a notification saying after 3 videos video playback would be stopped unless I disabled my adblocker. Sick of these *******

There's nothing wrong with ads in principle but the reason people started using adblockers is the sheer number of ads that people shove on websites now. There are some websites that practically break when I'm on mobile because they're just littered with ads and pop ups. Adblocker is the only way to make these websites useable. Plus youtube puts far too many adverts into a single video which disrupts the viewing experience. One or two at the start would be one thing, but multiple throughout the video is just ridiculous. 1 1
Pop Life Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) YouTube has been in business for over a decade and did just fine without resorting to aggressive monetization like they do now. If you honestly believe the poor widdle 30 billion dollar mega-corporation can't keep the lights on without your help, then that's your delusion. I personally refuse to pay for something I used to get for free Edited August 30, 2023 by Pop Life 4

But the phone app is unusable, if that's what they're using. OT: I don't use Youtube on mobile but I have used it on my smart TV and it was so aggressively bad, like I was just trying to play some music and I would get two ads after every song, with one of the ads always being longer than the song/video itself Edited August 30, 2023 by Illuminati

WokeEqualist Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) I've been getting multiple unskippable +20 second long ads on the same video lately which is outrageous, if they wanna make ads unskippable they should be 6 seconds long maximum. I watch it on my Apple TV so there is no way around it sadly, I even stop watching the video altogether if I didn't even wanna watch it that bad in the first place when the long ads play. I'm sorry but I'm not paying for yet another platform Edited August 30, 2023 by WokeEqualist
barbiegrande Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Am I the only one who doesn’t mind Ads? Gives me time to pee or get a snack.

I skip thru them all regardless (except the 5sec ones), but I'm not going to add an ad blocker or anything. That would be kinda hypocritical to my own interests.

I imagine YT premium cuts into ad sense money for smaller YouTubers, which is who I mostly consume.

It *does* have its own 5-second ads, but they are far less obtrusive. Also, it lets you play videos with the phone locked. 1
rzal Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Youtube got so bad in general, their main page algorithm used to be IT now there's nothing interesting to watch.
ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted August 31, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted August 31, 2023 I wonder how people saying they'd never pay for YouTube are paying for Spotify or Apple Music. YouTube Premium is like $1 or $2 extra but includes a lot more. It's definitely worth it, especially if you can get a student discount
DeepEnd Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Stop being poor and pay for the subscription. 1
