Peak Now Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Not the OP example of Chinese food being takeouts... 1 1 1
fememeist Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) I fear thai or vietnamese food is the GOAT asian food Give me Bánh Cuốn or laab moo >>>> jjajangmyeon, japanese ramen, filipino adobo and all of these foods still clear European/caucasian food Edited August 26, 2023 by fememeist 1
Peak Now Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) This thread reminded me of this mess... Edited August 26, 2023 by AndThenTheCocaine 5
Contessa Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 If you haven’t had Dandan noodle you don’t get to rate Chinese food 1 1
ugo Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) I doubt you're talking about authentic Chinese food. panda express or whatever they have in the uk is not Chinese food. It's like calling Taco Bell Mexican food. Edited August 26, 2023 by ugo 1
flower moon Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 chinese food within china >>> its such a diverse country for food. its rare to find good/authentic chinese food imo
Before Today Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Japanese Taiwanese Thai the trinity of East and Southeast Asian cuisine. Viet is close.
kandicha Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 No, i live in an area with a big Chinese immigrant population and I love trying the different cuisines from different provinces. 1
BGKC Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) Most westerners don’t even know what real Chinese food is outside of westernized takeout. Sichuan dry pot for example wrecks most dishes imo. The flavor and variety has no bounds. There’s so much to it depending on the region (whether it be Sichuan, Hunan, Guangdong etc). Throw in Taiwanese for extra measure. It defeats most countries cuisines imo. If anything, people are most ignorant towards Chinese food based on takeout. Similar to Mexican, but Mexican for the most part is appropriately rated and acknowledged for its authenticity (at least in the America’s).. overrated goes to Italian cuisine. Domination Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 The Americanized dishes are not for me but Cantonese food and more regional cuisines from the mountainous areas are god tier. 1
Beyonceist Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 After living in China for years as an expat, I can definitely say it is overrated as hell. 1
Robert Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Absolutely not especially if you get authentic Chinese food.
Solaria Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I find Mexican to be more overrated because they use a lot of herbs and spices I’m not fond of. And there’s corn in almost every dish
Jack! Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Anglicised and/or Americanised versions of Chinese food is a little redundant, I guess you could say yeah. I don't mind ordering Chinese if I'm in the mood but it definitely makes me feel pretty grim afterwards. (Again, talking about foreign versions of it, rather than maybe more traditional versions of it.) I prefer Indian cuisine.
Steve Johnson Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Yes, it’s overrated. Indian food is the best, just so much flavour. 1
Vixen Eyes Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 whats funny is that i JUST had chinese food for dinner a few hours ago lmfao
Reverie Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Not only is actual chinese cuisine one of the most expansive and diverse in the world but even shitty chinese takeout will never be overrated because it's always been cheap, accessible, and for the people in ways that so many overpriced and overrated cuisines have never been or haven't been in ages 1
Genius1111 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I live in Asia and I am able to easily access authentic Chinese food from different parts of Greater China. Food from the north does not really suit me. Hong Kong dimsum and Taiwanese food are lovely. Oddly enough, I do like the Western versions of Chinese food, but maybe it's because of the sweet sauces that are surprisingly not that commonly used here. But Japanese food >>>> Chinese food.
IBeMe Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 No. That would be French food. SUPER overrated. Pastries and breads...the french excel at that but the food itself is very mid overall. 1
Revolution Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 4 hours ago, IBeMe said: No. That would be French food. SUPER overrated. Pastries and breads...the french excel at that but the food itself is very mid overall. the fact that POC restaurants always have to play second fiddle to this terrible ass cuisine. 2
JC. Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I had my first Dim Sum experience last week and it was heavenly. Like others said, Chinese cuisine is very expansive so don’t just judge by your takeout. 1
Leptine Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 No food is overrated if done well with quality ingredients, every cuisine has its own interesting dishes and plates.
Starfish Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 It's what you make of it. I personally love orange chicken with the little sesame seeds on top .
