Green Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Oliver Anthony Music’s breakout viral hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. Among other chart achievements for the singer-songwriter, he’s the first artist ever to launch atop the list with no prior chart history in any form. “Rich Men North of Richmond” drew 17.5 million streams and sold 147,000 downloads in the tracking week ending Aug. 17, according to Luminate. Not being promoted to radio, the song also tallied 553,000 radio airplay audience impressions, the bulk on country stations. The single also debuts at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, and No. 4 on Streaming Songs.

Green Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Unsigned, undeterred: With Oliver Anthony Music doubling as the label credit for the self-released “Rich Men North of Richmond,” the singer-songwriter marks a rare unsigned artist at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Lisa Loeb became the first such act, when “Stay (I Missed You)” led in 1994, although the song was released on RCA Records, from the hit Reality Bites soundtrack.

FameFatale Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I swear the Rich Men song is just becoming popular because the conservatives are mad at their old fave Tyler Childers for having a gay anthem so they scrapped up this kid who does the same thing, from the same area 1
jamiko1230 Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 (edited) Naastiest summer stew of pure Maga shiate ever in Billboard history! 🫣 Without all that gunk would've had a pretty stellar summer of chart pop perfection (Olivia, Taylor, Selena & Dua etc...). Basically, like most of Europe was blessed with Lol Very unfortunately I/we think we see where this is rapidly descending (esp. into a Presidential year). Between Musk/X & other shadowy, sinister algo oriented figures. 🤡🥵. Tbh surprised it took this long but reeks from no 'random coincidence novelty'. Edited August 21, 2023 by jamiko1230 1
fridayteenage Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 a decade ago: Quote “Shake” becomes just the 21st song (of 1,023 No. 1s dating to the chart’s 1958 launch) to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Even more notably, it’s the first song to start at the summit by an artist essentially unknown prior to charting. Of the prior 20 No. 1 debuts, three were by artists making their first Hot 100 appearances, but all – Clay Aiken, Fantasia and Carrie Underwood – had built familiarity via months of weekly TV exposure on Fox’s “American Idol” (2002-05). Lauryn Hill also sent her solo debut “Doo *** (That Thing)” to a No. 1 beginning in 1998, but she was, by then, known for fronting R&B act the Fugees. feels like that is at least comparable.

Doesn't a Platinum certification cost like $900? That album has literally generated more than $120M and yet they can't put a few bucks into certifying it ?
YourMadGesty Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 What the hell is this top 3?! Back in my day (early 2010s) main pop girls dominated the charts to keep uglies like Travis and this red headed Hagrid beasts from public visibility. Now it's just an who's who free for all. 1
