Distantconstellation Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 That just makes u feel worse not better lol. What kind of advice is that. It sinks u deeper into sadness depression 2
Taste of Honey Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Sometimes I just like to stay in that moment. But I'm a pretty melancholic person in general.
Bloodflowers. Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 For me, listening to sad songs when I'm sad makes me relate to the lyrics and know that what I am going through is okay because I am not alone. Some sad songs also have empowering and hopeful messaging, so those can help me too! 1
MoonGoodandHappy Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Why do people say to eat when you are hungry ?
Post Malone Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I personally find myself gravitating towards the dumbest, most juvenile EDM bops when I'm sad 1 1
brraap Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 To cry it all out until you can cry no more. I never really understood Adele’s music until I had a breakup

Artist Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 It's sad tbh - but people feel a sense of control in sadness and a sense of fear in happiness. listening to sad music confirms the feeling and create a sense of "relatability". Most people would benefit from saying: what am I sad about and how can I become happy? A simple question like that puts you a path to swift recovery. 1
DonnaSpring Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 because i dont feel like listening to happy songs about everything being amazing , especially love songs when you feel like sack of potatoes a sad song means you can connect and cry and let go of the sadness , happy song make me feel worse 1 1
NumbSoul Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Maybe it's not for everyone, even for me it depends on the situation, but sometimes making yourself even sadder, which leads to crying it all out, can make you feel much better in the end - it's like letting all the emotions out and you feel cleansed at the end. 3
Rebel Lion Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 it's not a want thing. It's to relate to someone else who is also going through pain. 1
May Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 i like to romanticise my sadness . im a glamorous sad person . i like to sit and cry and pretend im in a movie . can i just have this ONE thing ?? 1
PopKills Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) People love to pity themselves lol. But also bc it can be therapeutic & aesthetic. Edited August 15, 2023 by PopKills

There's nothing inherently wrong about feeling sad, it's a normal human emotion. There's nothing to ''recover'' from. 1

It's top 3 one of the most beautiful emotions. It's a guide to contentment, joy or happiness but "sadly" people often see it as if something is wrong. My comment was more for people who sit in sadness and make it apart of their identity vs individuals who follow the healing process. Sadness, if prolonged, makes us miss out on the beauty of life. You can't be sad and present because sadness is taking the past into the present which reduces the likelihood of anyone feeling fulfilled. You may not understand this piece and that's okay. If something happens I were to be sad, continuously listening to sad songs would make it worse and create "light trauma" - now every time you hear a specific song you have a flash back of emotions to when you were sad. Songs, places and meals capture emotions so normally when you hear a song or visit a place, you often feel a specific way. If someone is sad, they shouldn't shame it or run, they should understand it and learn - not be a victim.

If someone is sad, they shouldn't shame it or run, they should understand it and learn - not be a victim. You say it's beautiful but are still framing it as something undesirable. I'm not sure what exactly you have an issue with here. My issue with the contemporary discourse and our general behavior around sadness is people shaming others for being sad, like they don't want to see that because they themselves don't know how to handle it. And what is the problem about presentifying the past exactly? Our collective past is actually a huge part of our present and I would argue that we should think about the past more, to learn from it, because we do not do that enough. It seems to me like you doing just what you are saying others shouldn't - shaming other people for how they choose to deal with their emotions. If society at large views sadness - a natural human emotion like we agree on - negatively and as something undesirable, what we should not do is grind on people for being sad and acting like they are claiming they are victims because they feel sad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is an universal ''healing process'' literally everyone needs to go through when they feel sad. It's not that cut and dry and we all deal with our emotions differently. What is the problem with connecting a sad song to an specific time you felt sad in your past? Can that not part of the "process"? Is sadness not fundamental to our human experience? It's like trying to preach how and when people are allowed to be happy or angry instead of... listening to why people are angry. Why is someone ''making sadness a part of their identity'' something harmful and not part of their own process with and their relationship with that feeling and thus perfectly okay?
Alldeezy Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I just listen to sad allday songs and his voice instantly puts me back in a better mood, outta a dark mind set or if im having an aniexty attack. Guess it depends on the artist really
DamianSolo Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I hate being or feeling sad. I listen to more aggressive music whenever I'm sad.
zasderfght Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 You shouldn't continuously listen to sad music if you're going through a traumatic or emotionally-heavy situation. You want to process what happened and move on. Listening to more upbeat music, being in nature, getting enough sun exposure, having pizza/drink night with the girls, etc.-- these are going to help. Not drowning yourself in your sorrows.
flower moon Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 i used to do this but realised it wasnt making me feel better long-term. now i go for a bit of overstimulating hyperpop.
