Revolution Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Does Mr. "Revolution Now🇲🇱🇧🇫🇳🇪🇬🇳" speak for all queer Africans?
byzantium Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) I’m not sure why my tax dollars need to go help people that hate me. I’d rather see us help places in Latin America like Equador, and Cuba. Hasn’t, Colombia taken in a lot of refugees? Let’s give them a hand. That said, I’m not a fan of this rhetoric being co-opted by people that would turn around and take away our rights at the first chance they receive. This is a can be a disingenuous argument not to express solidarity with the queer community but to in fact use the queer community as a vessel to express hatred towards another community. State of Grace. Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 This **** is honestly way too complicated and it is not as simple as "Ha we're not giving you money because you have homophobic laws. Now you can ALL starve and suffer (including the queers hehe we're sorry you live in a shithole!)". World Bank's decision is pretty hypocritical. I'm seeing everyone and their mothers applauding this on Twitter like they just gave Ugandan queer people their rights but I wish people were able to see past that. They are literally using us as an excuse to control and further exploit these countries. It is also so ridiculous to overlook how evangelicals came to nations like Uganda in the first place, planted all these anti-LGBTQ+ seeds, and helped exacerbate homophobic sentiments. Anyways! I'm only wishing for peace and strength for my fellow queers in Uganda/the rest of Africa amidst this mess. 1
Archetype Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Meanwhile the Chinese govt is probably drafting a huge aid package for Uganda.
Peak Now Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 This is just a general thing with sanctions, right? These days it does seem like the rich and powerful in sanctioned countries can circumvent them by offloading their money in some foreign bank and random civilians are hurt the most. The last time sanctions "worked" would have been, like, South Africa, but even that took decades. If anything people should focus their efforts on hitting government officials where it hurts them the most: their own private savings. But multinational banks famously do not have a single ounce of morality so eh 1
