The "Barbie effect" is in full swing.

 

Two weeks after the hit summer film's release, box office sales are on track to top $1 billion, and retail sales of the namesake dolls are booming.

 

"Across the board, we're seeing doll sales up 56%," said Harley Finkelstein, president of Shopify, the e-commerce platform that powers the direct-to-consumer operation for Barbie's parent company, Mattel.

 

I'd buy a console  and the up coming Mario game instead.

It's an update from the same site, 57% is impressive but not extraordinary given the movie's success ... I would assume. I would expect an over 100% increase instead.

That thread was for the period up to June 30, which is before the movie even released…
