You will be in good hands! Upon check-in ask politely if you can have an emergency exit row for free extra legroom!

All the extra leg room seats are taken :doc:

They usually keep some blocked out until check-in opens. Worth a shot!

Have you ever flown on Emirate's A380 in Economy? I'm flying London to Bangkok via Dubai next week and I'm so nervous :rip:

I preferred the Emirates A380 over the 777 for sure so you did good (I just found it slightly more roomy and comfortable)

Never had anything but good experience with emirates staff too. What are you nervous about?

I'm plus size so I'm worried the width of the seat is going to be uncomfortable. I'm used to flying in First/Business (I couldn't on this journey because it was crazy expensive) but normally when I fly economy on other airlines I can select my seat so I can make sure the seat next to me is empty for some extra room, however Emirates charges to do this :noparty: everything else I've heard about them is incredible so I'm looking forward to flying with them for the first time

Airbus planes usually don't allow airlines to squeeze one more seat in the row till they found a way to do it and in Boeing planes American beancounters could squeeze one more seat in a row.

A380 has the older 18" seat width, it's trendy to lower it to 17" like 10 abreast in 777.

There are exceptions to the rule that could go down to 16".

What are those America-centric responses

OT: Polish LOT or Swiss Airlines

Posted

In no particular order

1. Singapore Airlines is usually great, though they received quite a bit of flack earlier this year when they were caught scrimping on frills despite being a full-service airline (Well, it was half understandable, since there was no domestic market to fall back on for the 3 years with travel restrictions, unlike most other bigger countries). I flew with them a few months ago and it was excellent again.

2. Turkish Airlines - I like that they, in theory, provide unlimited snacks. Long haul flights are terrific. However, I remembered on my first trip, the seats in the plane used from Istanbul to Zagreb were in a pretty bad state and were quite dirty. This was about 6 months before COVID started. I flew with them again last year en route to Ireland, and the planes were much cleaner, fortunately. (But again, it may be because of the fact that the flight time was longer?)

3. Wizz Air - I love that they fly to pretty "exotic" / under-visited locales and the prices are surprisingly low. (Like, GBP16 from London to Reykjavik, USD30 from Abu Dhabi to Samarkand, USD30 from Abu Dhabi to Larnaca, USD 16 from Yerevan to Larnaca, one-way). The only thing that bothered me was that they charge for carry-on too.

Others

Malaysia Airlines - I flew with them 10 years ago (before the twin disasters of MH370 and MH17) and the flights were good.

Air China (based in Beijing) - Cheap flights to Europe (the only problem was that they switched off the in-flight entertainment way too early)

Cathay Pacific - I would have never expected that an airline based in HK would have an arthouse gay movie, Eismayer, (with explicit humping scenes) to be part of their catalog of movies.

Binter Canarias - Not really that cheap, but they always served that chocolate bar

Delta - I only tried once, but I had a great experience and the miles never expire.

I've never flown domestic, but Delta across the pond is always so convenient for me. And I enjoy BA's short flights to London from elsewhere in Europe.

International- Emirates. Flying first class and taking a shower in the sky is a whole other experience.

Domestic- United out of convenience so the airport they operate at is closest to me. Very mid, but never had any major issues with them. I will be trying out their business class next week on my flight to London, so curious to see how it will compare to Emirates business class.

I’ve also tried:

Qatar airways- top tier

Singapore Airlines- Very good

Cathy Pacific (in 2011)- very good

Porter Airlines- horrible

Air Canada - horrible (Toronto airport has constant issues with significantly delaying flights)
