dussel_06 Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 The f*cked up thing about this American culture is people are enticed to take this job with the promise that they will earn on tips more than their salary. And most of the times, they do. But it became the norm and employees feel entitles to receive these tips. It’s totally different than in any other countries. When you give tips, you will literally see the smile on people’s faces. You’ll know that part of their job description is to provide good service, tips or no tips. That should be the norm. The reward is the keep the customers keep using the service or go back to the same restaurants. But oh well, it’s America, the country that forces you to get a credit card to build your credit score.

Don’t order delivery if you are not going to tip. On most apps you pay a delivery fee or the delivery is already priced in the food prices. Tips are always optional and on top. If you don't get paid enough complain to your boss. Edited August 3, 2023 by Zaram
Starshine Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I’m sawry but it’s kind of hilarious how many threads about tipping culture I see on a frequent basis and it’s the same debate over and over. We’re just fighting amongst ourselves instead of holding rich people accountable. 1

But that goes to the cost of operating door dash as a platform. It does not go to the people actually delivering the food. 1
Trent W Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 They should add automatic tips like some restaurants do, its the only fair solution The tips I’m 100% against are the ones that you have to tip the cashier In nyc in some restaurants they put that option and the cashier stares at you expecting a 20% tip. It’s so uncomfortable, that I have stopped going to some restaurants because of that.
Gladiator Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Obvious tipping comments aside on "paying a wage" etc that has been said 100 times and will never change the way the service industry works. As someone who has worked on the other side of that and has worked for tips.... I am not someone about to tip a deliver driver. I simply do not have the justification in my head to pay for delivery as well as tipping for that delivery. As such, I don't order delivery. I go and pick it up so that someone who does tip a delivery driver can order and give them a tip to pay for their laziness in not leaving the house. I encourage those who do not have the available funds living in a place where tipping is standard for delivery to instead leave their home and pick up the food themselves.

Sometimes the amount you see is exactly the full including the tips but there are plenty of hidden tip orders. But it is still dumb to base a pick on what might be hidden since a lot of them aren't or would only be a small increase anyway. Yeah that is true... occasionally you would get more than what it showed, but never less. Most of the time you just got what it showed when you accepted the order though. Also the 2 times I delivered to a HUGE mansion I got no tip, those people are the cheapest lol; but I never expected tips as something I was entitled to. Edited August 3, 2023 by Kamil24 1

I will never understand it
