BryceG Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I know people will get up in arms about it, but as a non-American, tip culture is more alien to me than E.T. If your job isn't paying you enough, unionise or get another job. 10 1
WokeEqualist Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 People are so entitled nowadays, getting a tip is nice but if the person ordering can't afford to tip you you should respect that? You're still getting paid by whatever app you work for and if that's still not enough for you, get a different job 4 2
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 There's so many of these Rude as hell but it's sad that people have to rely on tips for a living, if you don't receive tips, you're just doing severely underpaid labour, which must sting and be so defeating. Customers shouldn't be responsible an employees salary. 1 minute ago, BryceG said: If your job isn't paying you enough, unionise or get another job. Good luck with that in US
Twilish Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 If you can’t afford to tip maybe you shouldn’t be using expensive af door dash for your meals definitely should not have thrown the food like that but i can understand the frustration. Especially since the house itself looks nice from the angle so I’d be surprised if they were struggling with cash that bad 12 1 5

Twilish Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Just now, SmittenCake said: exactly! doordash/uber eats is for when you have some money to throw out because its expensive. I’m also the type that would tip because I’m afraid the order won’t be picked up or the driver will mess with it so i would never find myself in this position for multiple reasons 2
byzantium Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 If you don’t pay for the service, then you should not expect to receive the service. Don’t order delivery if you are not going to tip. 8 8
Katamari Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 lol how petty cant they choose what orders to do tho
Dancehall Queen Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I feel a lot of people here are posting their default replies but the kid sounds 12. To expand on this a bit, kids are terrible for all service industry jobs. If you get a table of kids, they’re probably not going to tip, if you work in retail, a group of kids is going to bring down your average ticket, etc. Kids are just using their allowance money, most of them aren’t capable of thinking of other people yet. They still having growing up to do. That doesn’t mean they should be subject to abuse. I was taking a walking tour a few months ago and all the kids didn’t realize they had to tip at the end. They were scrambling trying to get their parents to send them money and venmoing each other $2. The tip they collectively put together wasn’t great, but it’s just something they didn’t know they had to do.

SapphireSky Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 America is a mess glad tipping isn't a thing here
simplywohoo Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Nobody is forced to tip, unacceptable and unbelievable behaviour

Buffy Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Communication is important. That worker could’ve shown up with humility, had a civil conversation, break bread with her client, and maybe end up receiving the tip. But no, the lady was dealing with a child who likely didn’t understand the concept of tipping and chose violence. People need to be trained on how to have conversations. Not everything has to end in chaos
swissman Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 wait. they can see if they got a tip BEFORE it's delivered? isn't that 1) the opposite of how tips work and 2) a potential breach of privacy insofar as you've already let someone who is coming to your house know how much you are/aren't giving them? I always tip, and try to tip well as it seems like a hard job, but also would expect that the tip is visible AFTER the order is delivered, even if I do select the tip prior. 1

Don’t order delivery if you are not going to tip. I am sorry but no. When you use these services you are paying a service fee (for the delivery app), a delivery fee and on top of that menu prices are usually more expensive in these apps. As a customer you already covered the costs so it is not a responsibility to tip the driver as they should be paid by the service. I hate this "if you can't tip, don't eat out / do take out" mentality. The better thing to say is "if you can't afford to pay tour waiters/drivers livable wages, don't open a restaurant". Also, these type of gigs are supposed to be side hustle, not a full time job. However, I do understand the current social and economical situation in this country and the pennies waiters and drivers get, so their frustration is reasonable. But do not take it out on the customer, they are entitled to not give you a tip. I always tip (which is why I rarely use these apps, as the total inflates a lot with all the fees and tips) but it is a very ****** up system and there have been times when the people delivering to me are driving these expensive ass cars 6 1
PixelStick Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I don’t tip and never will,I don’t work my shitty job to pay you for extra for half cold food when the restaurant should be paying you.idk is it an American thing, like to throw food on the ground so petty 2 2

Are you saying you don’t tip your drivers? They are working hard, likely have hard lives at home, depreciating their vehicle just to deliver to you, have to pay for their own gas money, and sometimes have to deal with mean customers. Tips can be a charitable act that go a long way for these people. They probably also need money to feed their children. If anything, the tips are a good way to encourage them to keep their head up high. Delivering to your home is also the same as a waiter delivering to your table. Do you tip your waiter? Tip your driver too then. Edited August 3, 2023 by Buffy 1 2

Don’t eat at restaurants, or even drink at bars. Also, businesses should pay their employees a fair wage. 1
