ICLDXU4HS Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 As a European who has an iPhone, when someone texts me on iMessage I immediately delete the chat and text them on WhatsApp. If they don’t have WhatsApp I’ll barely be talking to them.
The7thStranger Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 The US pushed "unlimited talk and text" really early on in cell service. By the time WhatsApp came around, SMS was free so there was no need for an alternative. European carriers, while generally being 1000000x better than American ones, flopped when it came to their SMS pricing structures.
Theshigo Washidu Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Because they don't want the aunties and uncles sending them or sharing any old **** they find online.
Dessy Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 There's just no point to WhatsApp here. Texting is easy and social media is another easy way to interact. I did have WhatsApp in college to interact with some international friends who attended but that was basically it.

Outside the USA practically nobody uses that technology from the past anymore (it was popular in the early 2000's). At least in my country (Mexico) ALL mobile/data plans/packages offer free sms and unlimited calls, but very few use that benefit. The majority (in my country, children, teenagers, adults and old people; even iPhone users) use WhatsApp, it's like a requirement, and we use it for practically everything: communication, education, shopping, checking, paperwork, etc. It is a very complete and secure app. This plus for my experience in Brazil not everyone has the money ti always be up to date with their prepaid phone plan to get the unlimited SMS/mobile data like 4G and WhatsApp you can use with WiFi. 1
Superbitch Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 We have unlimited texts and internet. I use WhatsApp cuz my family in Mexico all Use it
fountain Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 In the UK it’s pretty split between Messenger and WhatsApp, but I’d say in my experience Messenger is a bit more popular. I prefer Messenger honestly, because the app is nicer. They are essentially the same thing though, just with one linked to Facebook as opposed to your phone number. I have unlimited texts but don’t ever use even a single one.
chaklux Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Everyone in my country uses WhatsApp. You can quote and reply to a specific message on WhatsApp unlike iMessage that you can’t quote. Also searching your chat history to look for an information you’v been told before is easier on WhatsApp. Just type a keyword in the search box unlike iMessage. WhatsApp have status similar to IG story where people post stuff happening in their day to day life that you can comment on which makes it more fun.
Selegend Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 i think it was all about the moment it started. i think it was in 2010 or something? here in Brazil it was one of the first countries Whatsapp was MASSIVE and it had the "advantage" that u could send messages unlimited if u were connected with a Wifi for example (for those that didnt have huge internet data in 2010, now almost everyone has it too). After not that many years, all of brazilian companies ALSO started offering unlimited SMS but it was already too late cuz brazilian eat up new technologies (we're always the first country where this **** starts lmao) so we were already used to Whatsapp and didn't want to get back to texting even with the fact that there's been almost a decade that every company here also offers unlimited SMS. So it was all about the moment it started, more than one decade ago.

I don't know anyone who uses Whatsapp My partner is from NZ and it's so strange to me (UK) that he messages his family on Messenger. WhatsApp is the norm here, Messenger a not-so-close-second, people only really use it if they don't have your number.
