Quiqui4eva Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 idk about that, I had to use WhatsApp for pretty much every group project in college

305 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Depends on whether your city has a big latin community or not. In Miami for example everyone has whatsapp and uses it. I use it daily
ccfan007 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I had never even heard of whatsapp until I traveled to Europe earlier this year and it was EVERYWHERE there.
Likingstars Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I use snapchat for work so i can silence it every time im out of the office
Archetype Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Every single person I know and talk to uses an iPhone, including all of my friends and family living in the EU and Mexico. We all use iMessage.

It’s annoying to have to use certain apps for certain friends when surely we can all just iMessage/SMS Tbh WhatsApp is more convenient for work groups or if you have different groups with mutual people as you can create it under a group name. In iMessage it is not possible to did so and a lot of times I get confused as to which group is to which.
bliaz Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Some clarifications for Americans who only use iPhone and live in their gringo bubble: Android phones can also send sms messages with the same features as iMessage. Outside the USA practically nobody uses that technology from the past anymore (it was popular in the early 2000's). At least in my country (Mexico) ALL mobile/data plans/packages offer free sms and unlimited calls, but very few use that benefit. The majority (in my country, children, teenagers, adults and old people; even iPhone users) use WhatsApp, it's like a requirement, and we use it for practically everything: communication, education, shopping, checking, paperwork, etc. It is a very complete and secure app. 4
ugo Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I mean it's fine some of them use messenger or iMessage There's no real issue

When you’re in a group chat on iMessage, if you tap the top bar with everyone’s names you can change the name of the chat. Maybe it has to be the person who started the group though
Kylizzle Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I've seen a lot but coming for Americans for using SMS is just grasping for straws

imabadkid Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I think it is… I’ve heard of a lot of DL guys using it tbh
Oktober Knight Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I don't know but I wish they would. It's a much better app than SMS cause you can send unlimited pics and videos without compression or needing to trim.
Orsay Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Most here have the option to use WhatsApp but opt for iMessage instead. It’s included in basic coverage for just about any iPhone user - not sure if that’s the case in every country? Or if maybe iphones just aren’t as common outside the US?
OrgVisual Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 So because everyone uses iMessage you are forced to have an iPhone? Or it works the other way around? I suppose Apple has a hand in shaping this texting culture

I ask because I always felt like WhatsApp would be so much harder to be discreet on since basically it displays all your information (phone number, name, even email) right there. ______ WhatsApp is only great if you have family members out of the country, saves lots of money on long distance communication etc.

Here in Latinoamerica iphones are too expensive takin in account our bad-low salaries. Is more a luxury than something common. The funny thing is how there's a lot of people here with bad economical conditions but they buy iphones takin loans just cause they wanna look wealthier lol There's also sometimes no point in gettin an expensive phone like that here...... Phone thieves are everywhere in latinoamerica and i see no point in wasting my money if its gonna be stolen Edited July 31, 2023 by AvadaKedavra

I thought Iphones were very easy to buy there cause the salaries are higher and tech less expensive in the US i thought every single person had an iphone there in America. Personally i like iphones and their tech but i hate the culture surrounding the product so, i dont know if one day i will get one. I also had a chance to read steve jobs memoirs and the guy was horrible. Hate that book But looks like in the gay community iphone are glorified cause theyre stylish Edited July 31, 2023 by AvadaKedavra

katara Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 WhatsApp is essential in Germany. Everyone uses it as the default to text.
