Hector Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Hollaback Girl & The Sweet Escape Cool deserved way higher than Platinum.
Slap Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 The way “Luxurious”, her fifth single that didn’t even chart that well, ended up platinum. Queen
ChrisTheLoner Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Bop after bop Wind it Up deserves Diamond though Sidenote: Why does it say TSE the song was released in 2002

You have to take into context that she started her solo career at a point where physical singles were completely dead, digital sales were in their infancy and would not peak until almost a decade later and streaming was almost nonexistent at the time of release. The vast majority of these units have been accumulated years after they were issued. There was also an almost entire decade gap between the second and third album so she wasn't exactly top of mind during that period either to be pushing her catalog. The Sweet Escape was the third most downloaded song of 2007 with 2.1 million copies and has shifted another 3 million catalog units since, that's pretty impressive. Hollaback Girl was the first single to ever sell over 1 million downloads, it was the best selling single of 2005 with 1.2 million copies. It has shifted nearly 5 million more units since its initial run. Luxurious was only a minor hit at the time, peaking at #21 and selling just under 150,000 copies by the end of 2007. The fact it's only platinum might look meek but considering its stats it's pretty impressive a minor hit from 18 years ago has still been shifting enough units to make it there. 2 1
crf13 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Classic after classic!! Cool and Luxurious are my favorite singles of hers.

Well it has sold 1.75 million pure copies, and besides Sweet Escape which is 5X platinum, the album's only other platinum eligible song was Wind It Up, with just over 1.5 million units sold. The rest of the singles + album cuts add up to another 1.5 million units sold maximum, so that's 1.75 million album sales and then around 8 million single units, which should convert 800,000 album sales. Therefore the album should have sold just over 2.5 million units in the US, which makes sense considering The Sweet Escape was the only smash off the album and besides Wind It Up with its decent initial sales everything else from the album flopped in the US.
