Should Doctors Stop Classifying LGBT as “High Risk Homosexual Behavior”?

Apparently it is done as a diagnosis so that we can get PREP :katie:

Quote

ICD-10 code Z72. 52 for High risk homosexual behavior is a medical classification as listed by WHO under the range - Factors influencing health status and contact with health services .

I feel like they should use a different method.

how do I get that on my chart

This is just another demonstration of how the US healthcare system sucks. If we didn't have pharmaceutical companies price-gouging and shitty insurance companies we had to rely on to afford medication, then the diagnosis wouldn't be necessary to get PREP.

Yes, seems very outdated.

With the way some of y'all act, no

But when straight people have unprotected sex, they are seen as following the Bible. This is discriminatory that LGBT is considered high risk.

No we're not. Straight people are literally hitting it raw hundreds of times a year and getting pregnant and having lots and lots of abortions and taking Plan B as the primary form of birth control. We're good.

My insurance won't cover STI tests unless my doctor uses the high-risk code, so I need it.

they should just call it what it is: high risk sexual behaviour

no need for the homo

The term is a bit outdated but generally having unprotected anal sex as a man with men who have unprotected anal sex with other men who have had unprotected anal sex with other men… well you get the picture. This term is pretty prescriptive and if you knew anything about STDs and anal sex, you probably wouldn’t feel the same about it.

But heterosexual have more HIV than homosexuals and it's rising even faster than before. I wonder why?!

Nope. High risk homosexual behavior is exactly that. It means unprotected anal receptive sex males.

It doesn't include everyone in the LGBT. As a matter of fact Prep for women is a different medication and it's for women that have vaginal receptive sex.

Because they don't use prep. Pure and simple. We are protecting ourselves. Our brothers and sisters with HIV are also taking PEP to be undetectable so that they don't pass on HIV either.

I can't see them ever not counting anal sex as high risk, it technically and literally is.

That's how they call it. Not sure why they called it like that for that guy.

That's a different code.

IDC-Code Z72.51 is for High risk heterosexual behavior is also a medical classification.

People need to chill. Not everything is a gay insult. I sure Prep is available to straight men with this code.

yes we literally are, wether you agree or not.

most of them also don’t take hard drugs during orgies for example or getting fisted by randos, a lot of gays do = high risk activities

gays also have a lot more sex partners than most straight people.

your chances of getting stds through anal sex are a LOT higher than through vaginal sex. especially when your partner hooks up with an entire city before getting to you and doesn’t use condoms, which a lot do.

kinda scary you don’t know all of this :rip: hope you’re not sexually active

I am one of the biggest sluts. I use PreP with condoms. I don't do bareback ever. No injectable drugs ever.

girl all men think with their d*cks and are always h*rny. so much so some "str8" men cross over to gayz because their high sex drive... I've always though it was a huge misnomer the idea that only gays engage in "high risk" sexual behavior. honey that's all men.

you may not and that’s great, i don’t either and i’ve slept with a ton of guys, but many are more careless / clueless which puts them and others at a higher risk, it is what it is

just look at how normalized ******* anybody bb while on prep is nowadays (at least where i live) as if anal warts or antibiotic resistant gonorrhea have disappeared…

Because gay men are in fact at the greatest risk of contracting HIV/STIs. I know many people what to be contrarian, but straight people are at a lower risk. Possibly due to various circumstances. Last year for instance, the monkeypox was spreading mostly among gay men.
