Is the “Everything App” the future of Social Media

Recommended Posts

Rumors circulating that Twitter/X will become the social media app that does everything. This already exist in China and South Korea for examples.

Where X will potentially become the social media app intergrating Messeging, Live Video streaming, GPS, Uber, music streaming, Blogging, Banking, and all forms of Media content in one. Is this Elon’s Longterm plan to replace Spotify, Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Online Store apps, Navigation, Weather, Discord, Twitch, YouTube, PayPal, Ect?

will the future eventually lead to a One World App Named X? Will X be the IPhone of future Social Networking :gaycat2:

I think the everything app can only work in places that don't have regulations preventing such monopoly. Facebook was in trouble in the past because of their perceived dominance in the social media market

How are y’all using social media still? :biblio:

Ever since the introduction of stories social media became more and more pointless and mindless.

hopefully in like 5 years social media will be seen as something of the past like we view Facebook now. I seriously don’t see how they can reinvent anymore.

FB (the app) is at an all time high daily active users. It’s definitely not something of the past. I don’t use it, and it seems like you don’t either, but that doesn’t mean it’s dead.

im perched. elon made few points here. **** those hundreds of different apps clogging my phone.

China has a centralized app like WeChat because the government controls everything. The US has regulation preventing monopoly power.

The attempts for “X” to do anything beyond basic Twitter functionality are gonna flop.

Nope. FB has been going down since 2022... hence the thousands of layoffs this past year.

Facebook loses users for the first time in its history

Facebook lost daily users for the first time in its 18-year history — falling by about half a million users in the last three months of 2021, to 1.93 billion logging in each day.

I hope not, but even so I really hope people are smart enough not to consolidate their entire lives into one lone app

Daily active users are still increasing in 2023: https://www.engadget.com/facebook-2-billion-meta-q4-2022-earnings-223814979.html

And the layoffs had nothing to do with the number of users. They had to do with their aggressive investment in AR/VR, which is not profitable yet.

so they went from 5 billion users to 4.99 billion?  Facebook is never going away like Gen Z thinks it would.  Anyone with a job uses Facebook.

Also, the whole world uses Twitter while WeChat and similar things like Naver are limited to their respective countries.

No, it takes like 0 effort to switch between your 5 most-used apps. There's no benefit to this

Meta is already subtly doing this. Props to Elon for actually seeing where things are going but he has done everything in his power to destroy Twitter so it's not likely to succeed.
